The tranquil, rolling hills and valleys of the South Downs National Park lie to the south west, offering 1,600km2 of breathtaking landscapes, and incorporating the majestic Seven Sisters Country Park, with its iconic white cliffs, meandering rivers and open chalk grasslands. A haven for outdoor pursuits such as walking, bird-watching, horse-riding, cycling, canoeing and paddle-boarding.
The whole of East Sussex is steeped in fascinating history, offering a wealth of medieval castles, historic monuments and battle sites. The spectacular Herstmonceux Castle, close to Hailsham, is a must-see, and about an hour’s drive away is the famous Arundel Castle dating back to 1067.
For a seaside outing, you’re around ten miles from the beaches at Eastbourne and the stunning dunes of Camber Sands. Or take a trip to nearby Bewl Water, the largest stretch of open water in the south east, offering fishing, cycling, sailing and canoeing.
Alternatively, you can enjoy a fabulous family day out at Knockhatch Adventure Park, a short four mile drive away. Here you’ll find all manner of entertainment, from petting farm animals to racing quad bikes, plus the Knockhatch Ski and Snowboard Centre with its 110m dry ski slope!
Or for keep-fit fanatics, Hailsham Leisure Centre is just ten minutes away by car, with its two swimming pools, a gym and even an eight-lane bowling alley.Transport
Major roads are easily accessible from The Hedgerows, including the A27 for Brighton (30 miles), Bexhill (12 miles) and Hastings (20 miles), the A267 for Tunbridge Wells (just under 25 miles away), and the A22 North which takes you to Eastbourne (12 miles), London and the South. Gatwick Airport is less than an hour by car, offering both domestic and International flights.
Leaving the car at home is always an option too, as Polegate railway station is just 6 miles away, with regular direct trains heading into the capital, Brighton and Gatwick Airport.Education
Families are well catered for, and there are a number of schools in the area including Hailsham Primary Academy and Hellingly Community Primary School. For older children there is the Hailsham Community College and other schools slightly further afield.Shopping
For everyday living, there are a number of amenities within a few minutes including a village convenience store, schools and a health centre. Hailsham town centre itself has several supermarkets, restaurants and cafes, a bank, Post Office and a number of independent and high street retailers.
