Selby is a great place for leisure activities as it's home to a range of sporting clubs, including football, rugby, golf, tennis and ten-pin bowling. It also has its own leisure centre. The River Ouse and the Selby Canal run through the town, providing some peaceful waterside walks. The local Barlow Common nature reserve is a great place to spot wildlife, and Selby Park, with its five-acres of beautifully tended gardens and children's play area, is a popular place for a picnic. For a bit of culture, Selby's Globe Community Cinema hosts all the latest film releases and Selby Town Hall Arts Centre holds music, dance and drama events. The jewel in Selby's crown has to be its majestic Abbey – it's 900 years old and is one of England's finest examples. It's well worth a visit.

Transport

Staynor Hall has convenient road links to York, Leeds and into Hull. The A19 runs north to York, and south to Doncaster. The A63 provides a link to Leeds to the west, and Hull to the east. Junction 34 of the M62 is 15 minutes away by car, and this connects with junction 42 of the A1 M motorway and with the M18. Selby train station is just 1.5 miles away, with services to the major UK cities, including Hull, London, Manchester and York. Bus services are just as convenient, serving the smaller towns and villages in the area. Robin Hood Airport in Doncaster, is less than an hour away by car.

Shopping

Staynor Hall is close to a large retail park, as well as being within walking distance of Selby town centre with its selection of supermarkets, high street stores and independent shops. The town is also well-known for its popular weekly market, which offers some delicious local produce amongst the range of stalls. For further shopping choices, the historic city of York is approximately 16 miles away, and is home to some large department stores, as many independent shops and boutiques. If you fancy a bargain, the York Designer Outlet has more than 120 shops to choose from.
