Property description & features

  • Tenure: Freehold
  • Spacious ranch-style home
  • Secluded, peaceful setting
  • Established, sun-filled gardens
  • Principal bedroom with en-suite
  • Double garage
Spacious is the one word that should appear in almost every sentence describing this peaceful home. Whilst tucked in a quiet, sunny spot it has expansive rooms by anyone’s standards, a cleverly designed layout and is surrounded by glorious gardens.

As you drive down the short, private road to reach Lorelei you are welcomed with beds of well-established shrubs and plants, surrounding a large parking area. Hedging provides privacy for the main gardens. Step through the front door into a bright and welcoming HALLWAY, from which all rooms lead.

To the left, you enter through glazed double doors into the generous SITTING ROOM which has plenty of room for comfy sofas where sliding doors open onto a sunny, private courtyard garden. The attractive Purbeck Stone fireplace is wonderful to snuggle up in front of during colder winter months. Further double doors open into the KITCHEN, another generously sized room with windows above the sink and larger windows and door opening onto the rear garden. There is a good selection of base and eye level storage, oven, hob etc. It is a large space that easily accommodates a dining table and arguably has enough room to dance a tango!

Off the hallway are the sleeping quarters. Directly in front is BEDROOM 3 / STUDY with views out to the rear garden. Turn right and there is the large PRINCIPAL BEDROOM with bountiful wardrobes and windows opening out onto the sunny frontage. There is a contemporary ENSUITE with walk-in shower, wash hand basin and W.C. Next to this is the FAMILY BATHROOM. This is yet another sizeable room, fully tiled, with whirlpool bath, W.C., and wash hand basin. Then there is BEDROOM 2, a good-sized double room, again with plenty of wardrobe space and beautiful garden views.

Outside
At Lorelei you can step out of one of many doors into the gardens, which wrap around this home. From the sitting room sliding doors you step into a south facing courtyard garden, ideal for balmy summer evenings, or as a party terrace for larger gatherings. Even in winter this sunny terrace still captures the heat and extends the amount of time that can be spent outside. Leading from this are gently sloping gardens, topped by an attractively styled pond, and edged with established beds and onto further gardens to the rear.

From the Kitchen door there are attractive steps down to the rear gardens, where it is tempting to sit with a cup of tea and take in the views across trees, to the Purbeck hills beyond. With raised vegetable beds to the left, to the right it leads past further attractive bedding to the DOUBLE GARAGE which has an automatic door and is plumbed with a sink, that could lend this as a useful utility space. To the side of the garage is the GARDEN SHED, and discrete shelter for bins etc. a side gate accesses the block paved driveway, which can accommodate multiple cars.

From the principal bedroom Patio doors open out onto a small patio, with characteristically attractive planting, offering yet another vista from this home.

Because it is so sheltered, this garden has been a perfect base for creating this well-loved and nurtured garden and you will be delighted by the planting that will emerge throughout the year.

Location
Harmans Cross has everything you could hope for from a small Dorset village. The two petrol stations each have a convenience store and one also has a post office, where one never has to queue. The village hall doubles up as cinema and occasional pub, to the delight of the locals. You can walk from the house and soon be on the ridge to go to Corfe or Swanage or longer walks take you to the coastal path. Lorelei is in a very quiet location, the most unusual sound being that of the steam railway as it progresses from Harmans Cross Halt to Corfe Castle and Norden. Apart from that, the predominant sound is that of birdsong, most noticeable in the morning and end of the day.

Situated between Corfe Castle and Swanage Harmans Cross misses the seasonal surge of visitors while still having easy access to the facilities of both.

Broadband availability and predicted speed: obtained from Ofcom on May 21, 2024

Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:

    Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
    Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
    Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s

The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2

Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength: obtained from Ofcom on May 21, 2024

Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:

Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services

Energy Performance data and Internal floor area: obtained on January 24, 2018 from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 or the Home Report if in relation to a residential property in Scotland.

Any supplementary data should not be relied upon as forming part of any property particulars and OnTheMarket cannot be held responsible for any incorrectness in this data. See here for more information.

    *Call rate information

Calls to 0843 numbers will be charged at 4p/min from BT landlines. Calls from other networks may vary, and calls from mobiles and outside the UK will be higher. Calls to local numbers beginning with 01, 02 and 03 numbers will incur standard geographic charges from landlines and mobiles.
