3 bedroom terraced house
Key information
Property description & features
- Tenure: Freehold
A row of five imposing Georgian townhouses stand proudly above Commercial Road, a reminder of Limehouse’s maritime past and in stark contrast to the modern apartments which border the nearby Limehouse Basin.
But when you climb the steps and enter this incredible 200 year old four storey residence, you’ll be welcomed by an unexpectedly creative atmosphere where every room tells a different story.
The ground floor entrance hall perfectly sets the tone, with beautifully restored original floorboards painted in a striking checkerboard pattern, demonstrating wonderful craftsmanship and a keen eye for detail.
Colour plays a huge part in this unique and individual home.
Working with interior designer Benedict Foley, the current owners have married the paint choices with the Georgian architecture in a way that in some respects are very traditional and in other respects thoroughly modern and fun.
There two reception rooms on the ground floor have been opened up to create one seamless sociable space, with two working original fireplaces and beautiful marble surrounds. The layout may be traditionally Georgian but the way that a bold burnt orange has been used on the wooden sash windows and shutters is anything but.
There’s a lovely garden room at the end of the hall. It’s flooded with natural light thanks to the large skylight which takes up most of the roof space and the full width bi-fold doors leading to the garden.
The leafy garden gets the sun in the late afternoon and evening so will be perfect for entertaining or just sitting out with a relaxing drink.
You certainly won’t miss the stairs to the lower ground floor, they’re painted a vibrant yellow with leopard print carpet.
There’s an open plan kitchen and dining room on the lower floor, with hi-gloss white
cabinetry and dark granite worktops over a stone floor. At the rear a handy utility room provides additional storage space and a home for the boiler.
The first floor has two bedrooms. As you’d expect, both have very distinct and contrasting styles.
The master bedroom (a large double) is painted a gorgeous combination of Light Peachblossom, Ashes of Roses and French Grey by Little Greene.
The smaller bedroom would make a brilliant home office or nursery.
The top has another double bedroom with an ensuite shower room along with the four piece family bathroom.
Limehouse Basin and Marina are on the doorstep and the property is within easy walking distance of numerous green spaces. Stepney Green Park is nearby, along with Mile End Park and Victoria Park only a short walk away.
It’s less than a five minute walk to Limehouse DLR station with links to Shadwell (Overground), Bank (Northern, Central, and Waterloo & City lines) in under 10 minutes.
If you’re heading to Heathrow or want a quicker journey into town, you can pick up an Elizabeth line train from Whitechapel, which is only a short Overland hop from Shadwell.
I can’t think of a more inspirational or creative home to bring up a family and with that in mind the “Outstanding” Sir William Burrough Primary School is only a five minute walk away.
Older kids have a little further to travel to Stepney All Saints CofE Secondary School (another “Outstanding” school) but it’s still less than a 15 minute walk away.
If you’re looking for an understated and subtle Grade II listed conversion this may not be the house for you.
But if you’re keen to embrace the spirit of joy and fun that the current owners and their interior designer have lavished across all four floors of this Georgian townhouse, you really do need to arrange a viewing.

Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s

The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2
Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength: obtained from Ofcom on January 14, 2022
Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
Energy Performance data and Internal floor area: obtained on September 5, 2022 from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 or the Home Report if in relation to a residential property in Scotland.
