Croft Assignation, 15 Vatersay, Isle Of Barra, HS9 5YW

A croft assignation extending to 6.38 Ha (15.75 acres) or thereby (to be confirmed)

15 Vatersay offers the rare opportunity to purchase a croft assignation on the Island of Vatersay.

Croft Assignation:

The croft at 15 Vatersay represents a rare opportunity to acquire the assignation of a croft tenancy on the Isle of Vatersay extending to approximately 6.38 hectares in total.

The croft assignation is in two parts made up of 1.52 Ha at 15 Vatersay and 4.86 Ha at 8 Eorisdale including an apportionment which runs down to the shore.

As this is a croft assignation, anyone wishing to take over the croft tenancy would require the approval of the Crofting Commission.

Interested parties are advised to consult a solicitor specialising in Crofting Law.

The current annual rental for the croft is £36.00 (although this may be subject to review).

Further information regarding croft tenancies can be found at

Crofting Commission Number: I0446

Crofting Register Number: C7558

Location:

The Island of Vatersay is the southernmost habited island in the Western Isles archipelago and is accessed via a causeway from the Island of Barra.

Just as short walk from the property is the stunning sandy beach with the Vatersay Community centre/café (open during the summer months). There is also a sub post office.

The nearest services are located in Castlebay on the Isle of Barra, approximately 6 miles away. Facilities in Castlebay include a primary and secondary school, community centre (with swimming pool), supermarket, post office, hospital, doctors and dental surgeries as well as a number of hotels and cafes, which in the summer months are normally busy with tourists. Castlebay is also the main ferry terminal for the island with the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry making twice daily visits in the summer time from Oban, in the winter time the ferry runs a more restricted service. A further smaller ferry operates from Ardmhor on Barra to Eriskay and regular scheduled flights operate from Glasgow and Benbecula with the famous cockle sands being used as a runway when tides permit.

Directions: From the Isle of Barra head across the causeway to Vatersay. Follow the road for about 5 miles and you will eventually come to a T-junction. Turn left. You will pass over a cattle grid and turn immediately right on to the track leading to No 15 Vatersay.

    Broadband availability and predicted speed

Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:

    Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
    Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
    Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s

The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2

Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength: obtained from Ofcom on April 25, 2024

Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:

Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services

Energy Performance data and Internal floor area: obtained on May 6, 2019 from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 or the Home Report if in relation to a residential property in Scotland.
