Returning home from work on a summer’s evening, the owner of the apartment at Felsted pours himself a cold drink and steps out on to his balcony. His stylish, two-bedroom home sits on the third floor of a lakeside building, where it enjoys magical views out across the water and its leafy, green surroundings. “To be honest, whenever it is not raining I tend to be out on the balcony,” he admits. “It is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, as well as the views. If people come over, this is where we tend to sit. It is the perfect place to unwind.”

Rooms

AMAZING OUTLOOK
Part of a stunning development on the outskirts of Milton Keynes, yet well positioned for the city centre and major roads, the property was completed about 13 years ago. Its setting offers a comfortable balance of semi-rural living with good access to shops and leisure facilities. “I bought it from new,” he recalls. “It had already been finished and I was drawn to it for its location. I remember walking in and just being amazed by the views, which are there to be enjoyed from the open-plan living area and both bedrooms.” He continues: “The property also offered good, well-designed living space, with a modern, high-quality finish and had two bedrooms, which gave me all the room I was looking for.”

MINIMALIST DESIGN
Cleverly designed to maximise its waterside position, the apartment sits within curved building that follows the shoreline of this section of Caldecotte Lake. Accessed by both a lift and stairs, it comes with an underground parking space and ample shared visitors’ parking. The owner and his visitors enter the apartment via a hallway, which leads to the two bedrooms, the family bathroom and the open-plan sitting room, dining room and kitchen. “This is a good-sized room, which is always light and airy,” he says. “As soon as you step inside, you are drawn to the views through the French windows that open on to the glass balcony at the end. In the warmer months, I keep these doors open all the time to bring the fresh air in and so I can wander in and out.” The room has a bright, modern finish, with walls kept neutral and furniture in grey and wood finishes. “I like a contemporary, minimalist look, and that works very well in an apartment like this,”

CONTEMPORARY KITCHEN
The current owner has his comfortable seating and television area arranged beside the balcony doors so he can take in the views at any time, but new owners may choose to have dining furniture down here instead. In the middle of the room, he has created a work space, while the kitchen is tucked neatly into the space at the opposite end from the glass doors. This has a black, white and grey finish, with light work surfaces, built-in appliances and a breakfast bar for two. “This is all very well arranged and is still in very good condition,” he says.

DAY AND NIGHT
The second bedroom, which is double in size, is next to the living space. This has worked well for the current owner as a bedroom but could equally make a great office, snug or dining room for someone else with differing requirements. The master bedroom is larger, with a bigger window and an en suite bathroom. “It is lovely to go to bed in here with the lights of Milton Keynes twinkling in the distance and to wake up to the views of the lake in the morning,” he says. “That is one of the things I will miss most about living here when I move.”

GLORIOUS SUNSETS
From the apartment, it is possible to descend and pick up the footpath around Caldecotte Lake within just a couple of minutes. People also enjoy this path for cycling and running. “You can follow it all the way round or just as far as you like,” he explains. “There is a pub on the opposite side so it is nice to stroll over there and back again in the summer.” He has enjoyed the convenience of being able to get out into the countryside around Milton Keynes or on to major roads out towards London and other parts of Britain easily. “I do like this location and hope to stay in the area if possible,” he admits. “I have really enjoyed the past 13 years living here. Being so close to the water has been wonderful; I will miss sitting out on the balcony in the summer watching the sun go down over the lake.”
