If it's character you want, this has it!

Whether you are looking for a home with feature fireplace, year round conservatory, your own bar and space to have people stay, or a family home where you can lock the kids away in the old prison cells when they just get too much, this is the home for you!

This is a period property converted from a Victorian Police Station, a truly unique house offering four double bedrooms and versatile living accommodation of almost 2500sqft with grounds of a quarter of an acre.

The original police station which is next to the Old Magistrate Court was formally opened in 1843. It consisted of two cells, a guard room, superintendent's kitchen and parlour, and bedrooms and social rooms for the men stationed there. It ran as a the divisional Headquarters for all of the Dengie Hundred with eighteen officers based there as well as housing families of the officers, including at one time two families with ten children and a servant.

In 1902 however, it was deemed to be an inconvenient police station and as such was reverted to a residence and office for the local constable. It ran as a police house and office up until 1930. A postcard dated 1931 exists, that states “here is our house, we moved in on Nov 28th 1931” meaning that this family would have been the first post-police inhabitants and hence the name change to the Old Police House.

In 2000 the property was extended and claimed back the office space to be used purely as one residence with accommodation extending to approximately 2500sq/ft.

The property has numerous reception rooms including two sitting rooms, one modern and one full of original character features, a cavernous conservatory and a social room with an original bar used by the officers.

Original heavy oak doors, a library and a study but could also have other uses such as a feature wine cellar. The kitchen has a beautiful contemporary finish with curved details with a separate utility room.

Two double bedrooms on the ground floor that share stylish shower room and two double bedrooms on the first floor including the principle bedroom with en-suite.

The property is accessed via two iron gates with a sweeping in out driveway enclosing a courtyard and front lawn. The rear garden which includes a summer house and sauna has a further paved terrace and an established garden bordered by hedging providing a high degree of privacy.
