Clyst St Lawrence is a village surrounded, clockwise from the north, by the parishes of Clyst Hydon, Whimple and Broadclyst.  The village of Whimple boasts its own railway station on the Exeter to Waterloo train line, a church, a primary school, shop, hairdressers and friendly village pub.
