Walking out across her land early in the morning, it isn’t unusual for the owner of the Grade II listed property on Wavendon House Drive to spot deer on the grass and birds in the trees. Her life at the property on the outskirts of Milton Keynes offers her semi-rural living and the opportunity to feel far away from it all, while, in reality, enjoying exceptional convenience. “We originally bought the house because we wanted the land and the outbuildings,” she remembers. “We have kept dogs and pigs here and the previous owners had horses. It could be perfect for anyone else seeking the space to keep a few animals of their own or for a smallholding. We have grown lots of our own home produce here too – there is ample space for a vegetable garden and for more outbuildings if required.”

Rooms

A LIFESTYLE CHOICE
It was back in 1994 that she first moved to the property, which has an interesting historical background. “This was once the lodge or gatehouse for Wavendon House,” she explains. “At the front, the original brick and stonework is still visible.” The property had already been extended when they bought it and, over the years that they have been there themselves, they have enlarged it further and redesigned spaces to suit their own requirements. “The changes we have carried out have made it a very comfortable and easy place to live. There is ample space for family living, entertaining and having guests to stay. The house now offers us the lifestyle we were seeking – a large, modern home, which is comfortable all year round and has good access out into its sizeable grounds.”

ATTRACTIVE ENTRANCE
The gated property is set well back from the road, with a generous driveway providing parking for several vehicles. The front of the house features bay windows and a colonnaded entrance, which opens into a lobby and then the reception hall. To the left-hand side is a bedroom, with built-in storage, but this space could equally have an alternative use as a study, playroom or snug, should that suit the new owners better. To the other side is the splendid master suite. “This is a lovely part of the house, with a good-sized bedroom, which has a bay window, a walk-through dressing room and an en suite shower room.”

WELCOMING LIVING SPACE
There are two more bedrooms, plus a family bathroom and a family shower room, before the house opens up to reveal its impressive main living space. This includes the capacious sitting room, which has a handsome, brick feature wall, with an inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove. “This is a very welcoming room, especially in the winter months,” she says. “There is lots of room in here for people to gather together.” Double doors from this room lead into the dining room, which in turn has French windows on to the garden. The kitchen breakfast room can also be accessed from both the hall and the dining room. This has a central island and very large breakfast bar. Contemporary in style, it features gorgeous, high-gloss units. “I love the kitchen and spend a lot of my time in there,” she adds.

A VERSATILE HOME
With the amount of land at the property, subject to the relevant planning permissions, there could be space for further extension. There could also be the possibility of converting outbuildings for alternative uses or for adding new ones. “There is a huge amount of potential here for someone to really enjoy all the existing space inside and out for their own business or leisure purposes. It is incredibly versatile and has been ideal for us in the time we have been here.”

PERFECT BALANCE
The location has also suited them well. It takes just 5 - 10 minutes to drive into the centre of Milton Keynes, with its many shops, restaurants, leisure amenities and travel links including the mainline station where direct trains in Euston are only 30 minute journeys. The train station at Woburn Sands is just five minutes’ drive and offers even easier access East to West. The Kingston shopping district is a 5 minute drive as is the Waitrose supermarket. “It is quick to travel into London and we are very well positioned here for the M1 and Bedford,” she says. “We have local shops and schools within easy reach too.” The location is also perfect for anyone who enjoys long country walks or cycle rides. “There are lots of nice places just a short distance away,” she adds. “This property is ideal for anyone who is seeking that balance of country living and proximity to towns and everything they offer.”
