The A59 is one of the main access road for Harrogate and York, from the A59 there is direct access onto the A1 (M) which is 7.5 miles) away.

In the neighbouring village of Kirk Hammerton about three miles there is the Ainsty Farm Shop which offers a range of fresh produce and a bakery. The village also has a train station which provides good access links into York, Harrogate and Leeds. There is also a local cricket club where people can participate in the sport or enjoy watching.
