Stepping out from their attractive Monkston Park home on a sunny day, the owners of the property on Goldhawk Road can be ambling along beside the scenic River Ouzel in just a couple of minutes. Yet their four-bedroom house is also well placed for excellent schools, a variety of shops and good road and rail links to London, Birmingham, Oxford and Cambridge. “On every count, this is an easy and convenient place to live,” one of the owners agrees. “If you have children or dogs, there are lots of play parks and green open areas for them to spend time in nearby; great primary and secondary schools are within walking distance and you can get to supermarkets, pubs and coffee shops on foot. This whole area has a very unique feel to it because there is such a lot of green space – that was what we loved about it when we first came to look at the house.”

Rooms

SUMMER DAYS
When the couple first came to view the property, which is about 15 years old. “It just felt right when we walked through the door,” he recalls. “It was exactly the size of house we wanted and it has a good layout, with a nice flow between the different rooms. The garden was also a good size.” Since moving in, the owners have redecorated throughout and upgraded certain parts of the property. Rooms are now painted in soft green and neutral shades to create a relaxing ambience; the en suite shower room has been refurbished and the garden has been landscaped. “Two years ago we added raised beds and a terrace,” he explains. “This is now a lovely place to relax or entertain during the summer months. It is like another room that can be enjoyed when the weather is warm.”

FLEXIBLE LIVING
The generous living space at ground-floor level has provided exceptional flexibility. “The living room can accommodate out extended family, or primary school play dates” “The kitchen dining room is equally big and also works well when entertaining, so smaller groups can mingle when there are lots of people in the house..” The kitchen also adjoins the utility room and there is also a cloakroom downstairs. “In addition, the extra room downstairs which could have a variety of uses. It could be used as a space for teenagers, while for us it has been a good playroom – but it would also be a great office for anyone wishing to work from home.”

COMFORTABLE BEDROOMS
The bedrooms are all up on the first floor and have been ideal for family life. They include the master bedroom, which has the en suite shower room. “This room is a nice size and looks lovely in the colours we have decorated it in,” he says. “The fourth bedroom is the smallest and could be a nursery or a study if required.” The family bathroom is also at this level.

BRIGHT IDEAS
Subject to the relevant planning permissions, the property does hold scope for potential further extension, the owner observes. “There is scope to extend out over two storeys to create extra upstairs space and a larger family kitchen,” he says. “There is a real opportunity for someone to do something similar here and it would not involve losing too much garden.”

HAPPY TIMES
There is a good community spirit among the neighbours on Goldhawk Road and the area is perfect for anyone with younger or older children. “It is a quiet location and particularly suitable for anyone wishing to be able to head off on long walks or cycle rides easily,” he explains. The porch at the front of the house, where wellies and walking boots can be left, is ideal for those who expect to spend time in Ouzel Valley Park or out in the countryside surrounding Milton Keynes. “We have been very happy here – it has suited our lifestyle well,” he admits. “We will miss both the house and the area when we move. This is a very welcoming place to live and we have made lots of friends.”

SETTING THE SCENE
The property has a garden to the front and garage to the side. To the rear, it opens into a family garden that has been landscaped, providing raised beds and a terrace for outside dining and relaxation.
