The Story
Celebrating special occasions with family and friends out in their spectacular garden or simply savouring the tranquil, relaxing ambience of the interior of their stylish home, the owners of the property at Beaufort Gardens admit they have created a truly unique sanctuary. Since moving to the detached property some 24 years ago, they have completely transformed the Ascot home: extending, upgrading and redesigning it to turn it into the impressive oasis it is today. “This has been a wonderful place to live,” one of them admits. “It has offered us privacy, space and flexibility. We have made many changes here over the years and it is now an incredible home. There has been plenty of space for our children and grandchildren to come and stay – and during lockdown, it really came into its own and was an amazing place to be. We will miss it greatly when we leave for so many different reasons.”

HIDDEN GEM
Situated on a plot that was once part of Crown Land, the substantial property is believed to date back to the mid-1970s. “We were looking for a home with more space and more garden,” she recalls. “This location was perfect for us – it was lovely and private and yet it was ideal for reaching good shops and restaurants, as well as Ascot Racecourse, with its many annual events, and Windsor. It was also very easy for both of us to travel into work at the time and it was well-placed for the train station, which is only a 20-minute walk away.” She adds: “This is also a great place to live if you have school-age children because there are some excellent private and state schools – including Charters – in the area.”

SPECIAL TOUCHES
Over the past 24 years, the house has been upgraded and reconfigured on several occasions to meet the changing needs of the family. “My husband had lots of ideas as soon as he saw the house,” she remembers. “We have extended; made changes inside and had the garden landscaped at different times since then – and today it all works incredibly well.” Indeed, with their exceptional eye for design, the couple have created a home that is both comfortable to live in and chic in appearance. There are special touches, such as the aqua television in the bathroom and glass-fronted Juliet balcony in the master bedroom, as well as great practicalities, including the solar panels that have hugely reduced energy costs and still generate a feed-in-tariff.

SUMMER SUN
Set behind a gated driveway, the five-bedroom property is entered via a long hallway, which leads to the huge, open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting room. At one end of this space, the contemporary kitchen, with its high-specification units, work surfaces and appliances, has been arranged for ease of use. There is a breakfast bar for casual meals close to the kitchen, while a more formal dining space sits beside French windows on to the garden. The L-shape of this living area moves round to a capacious sitting room, where bi-folding doors can be pulled right back on to the magnificent garden on fine days. “We had the bi-folding doors designed so we can swivel the television around and watch it when we are outside,” she explains. “This is lovely when you are sitting out in the sunshine on the decking in summer.”

SUMPTUOUS BEDROOMS
Also at ground-floor level is the impressive family bathroom, with the television positioned for optimum viewing while bubbling in a hot spa bath. There are two bedrooms, both with French windows on to the garden and one with an en suite shower room. This part of the house could be used as a self-contained guest suite or even an annexe. The other bedrooms are all up on the first floor. A statement wooden staircase, with glass and steel balustrades, sweeps up to a glass-fronted galleried landing. Each of the bedrooms has its own en suite shower room and one features an enormous walk-in wardrobe. Another bedroom includes the Juliet balcony. “It is wonderful to open the doors in here on a summer morning,” the owner says. And she adds: “The study, which has glass walls with internal blinds is also upstairs; this has been perfect as an extra bedroom at times when we have had our grandchildren to stay.”

FOND MEMORIES
Other spaces at the property that offer exceptional flexibility include the workshop and gym annexe, which opens on to the garden. There is also a generous garage. The owners agree they will take fond memories of their time at Beaufort Gardens with them when they leave. “We have had some wonderful times here, including one party to celebrate the World Cup with more than 60 people in the garden!” she recalls. “We have also enjoyed making the changes to this house and transforming it into the wonderful place it is today.”

SETTING THE SCENE
The property at Beaufort Gardens sits in splendid, landscaped grounds. The house opens on to exquisite gardens, with areas of stone terracing, lawn and pergolas. There is an eye-catching moongate, which is perfectly positioned to frame sections of the gardens, and there are different seating areas to enjoy throughout the day. Within the grounds, there is a large garage, a gym and a workshop.
