Property description & features

  • Tenure: Freehold
One of Bridport's most prominent family houses with very well-proportioned and light rooms, six double bedrooms, a sauna room, private garden, and parking.

THE PROPERTY
Situated in a prominent position on the edge of the thriving town of Bridport, first glimpses of Allington Lodge are most impressive, with its most attractive façade constructed of white stone render under a pitched tiled roof.
Justifiably Grade II listed of architectural and historical importance, and dating back to the 1830s, this wonderful property is arguably one of Bridport's finest family homes.
On first entering the property there is a real sense of charm, space and light with a good-sized hall with very pretty original tiled flooring, which like much of the house immediately puts a smile on your face! Just off the hall is a fabulous kitchen incorporating a number of very attractive wall and base units, an Aga (cream) and stone flooring. Alongside the kitchen is a breakfast room with plenty of room for a kitchen table, and a small pantry. There is also direct access to the garden and an al fresco eating area.
Also worth a special mention on the ground floor is the perfectly proportioned sitting room, with a central fireplace with wood burning stove, and a fantastic dining room with tall sash windows. There is also a fabulous study with views over the garden, and like many rooms in the house there are high ceilings with very pretty original cornicing.
The first floor is accessed via two staircases, the main staircase with a beautiful wooden balustrade, and an arched sash window attracting lots of natural light to the large first floor landing.
The principal bedrooms consist of four beautiful and very sizeable bedrooms, with a family shower room and a separate family bath/wet room.
The real surprise however, and accessed via a separate staircase, is a superb annexe, ideal for guests and teenage children or a carer. There are two bedrooms, an ironing / laundry area, a sitting area and a large newly fitted shower room. It could easily be incorporated into the main house, but also works perfectly as an entirely separate annexe.
To the front of the property is a very pretty covered sitting area, and ample off-street parking. To the rear is a delightful and very private garden, with a gravelled area ideal for al fresco dining. There are also two lawned areas, ideal and very safe for pets and children. Also to the rear of the property is a separate stable, great for storage, and a newly fitted sauna room, perfect for relaxing on a cold winters day.

All in all, this is a truly wonderful family home in an idyllic yet very convenient location.

LOCATION
Allington Lodge is situated in the bustling market town of Bridport, within walking distance to local primary and secondary schools, West Bay and the famous Jurassic Coastline, a World Heritage site. Bridport is a most attractive Georgian town that retains an excellent number of independent shops and restaurants and a thriving street market on Saturdays and Wednesdays. A choice of supermarkets is available in or around the town including a Waitrose within close walking distance, and Morrisons. There is a cottage hospital, a large medical centre, a popular leisure centre, a successful Arts Centre, two theatres, and a number of independent festivals involving the arts are held throughout the year.

Much of the countryside is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where strict planning controls apply to preserve its special character. West Bay is a popular small seaside resort with harbour, shops, restaurants and attractive beach. The Dorset coast is now recognised as a World Heritage Site.

A further wider range of amenities, including a mainline railway station to London Waterloo can be found at the County Town of Dorchester, or Crewkerne.
