Standing at the window in her kitchen, the owner of the house on Cruikshank Grove can watch her young children playing happily on the grass and she prepares their dinner. The four-bedroom, detached property has been their home for more than seven years now and has been everything they hoped it would be when they first viewed it. “We loved the large garden, which was south-facing and had lots of room for play equipment,” she recalls. “The house itself had a superb design which provided lots of room for a growing family. It had different reception rooms that people could spread out into and it offered the capacity for us to create some additional workspace here for my husband when we needed it.”

Rooms

SEPARATE SPACE
Indeed, creating an office was one of the many enhancements the couple have made during their time at the 20-year-old house at Crownhill. “Part of the detached garage building was converted into an office with its own cloakroom. This has been a perfect place for my husband to work as he is away from the house while also being nearby,” she explains. “It is heated and we have a sofa bed in there so we have also used it for guests on occasion too. We have discussed the fact that someone else may wish to look into converting it into a self-contained annexe, perhaps for an older relative.”

VERSATILE LIVING
The remainder of the garage can still be used for parking. The couple has had the loft boarded out to create extra storage. Other work to the house has seen them replace all the windows, lay new flooring and carpets, and redecorate throughout. “Many of the rooms have a feature wall in one particular colour. Other people would be able to change this very easily,” she says. The layout of the house is exceptionally flexible. New owners could adapt the use of the various reception rooms to allow space for children to play, teenagers to have dens and adults to work as required. “This flexibility has worked exceptionally well for us as our children have got older,” she adds.

FAMILY HOME
The property is entered via a central reception hall. This gives on to a reception room that looks out to the front. “This could be a study if you chose not to use the room in detached building as an office,” she suggests. “Initially, we used it as a playroom for the children but now it is an extra sitting room.” There is a ground-floor cloakroom adjacent and a dining room opposite. The kitchen, which opens into a utility room, has ample space for a breakfast table. “I have really enjoyed being able to cook in here while watching the children on the trampoline or swings.”

WELCOMING FRIENDS
The airy sitting room, which has sliding glass doors on to the garden, is a generous space that can accommodate friends and relatives when they visit. “We often have people over – some Sundays there are 12 of us here,” she says. “In the summer we like to have barbecues and parties in the garden. This is a house that can absorb large numbers of people very comfortably.” The four bedrooms are all upstairs, together with the family bathroom. The master bedroom features a bank of fitted wardrobes and an en suite shower room. “If new owners did want additional space they could look into adding another bedroom and bathroom at attic level. Some of our neighbours have carried out loft conversions.”

FOND MEMORIES
Crownhill is a friendly place to live, she continues. It is well positioned for outstanding schools, in a great location for shops and supermarkets and just five minutes’ drive from the train station. “For a time, my husband used to commute into London and he always found it very easy,” she says. There are lots of parks and green open spaces, as well as rivers and lakes, to take the children to and it is quick to get out of Milton Keynes and into the countryside at weekends. “We love living here and hope to stay in the area when we move,” she admits. “We have very happy memories of our time at this house – it has been a lovely family home.”
