Why choose Ryton Ryton is a semi-rural town on the western border of the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead, located 6 miles west of Newcastle upon Tyne between Blaydon and Crawcrook. In the past, Ryton’s economy was built around agriculture and coal mining but now due to its convenient location close to the A1 and main access roads to Tyneside, it serves as a commuter town. For those of us who use public transport, there is a regular bus service connecting Ryton to Gateshead, Newcastle and the Tyne Valley. Although a small town, Ryton has a variety of local amenities most of which are within in walking distance of Willows Edge including a Sainsbury’s local, Co-Op, two coffee shops, a Post Office and a range of schools. The semi rural location, close to the River Tyne provides easy access to some great hiking and cycling trails that will take you westwards towards Prudhoe or eastwards to the city of Newcastle and eventually to the beautiful North East coast line. Trains from Blaydon reach Newcastle in 15 minutes, going on to Sunderland and Hartlepool. National Cycle Routes 72 and 141, running along the north and south banks of the Tyne around a mile and a half away, provide quiet routes to Newcastle, Gateshead and the coast. Leisure and outdoor space Ryton is blessed with some fantastic open spaces where you can relax with the family or simply absorb the beautiful surroundings. Ferndene Park is only half a mile from Willows Edge which has a play area with a good selection of equipment, a bowling green, a tennis court and a small football pitch. Ryton Willows Nature Reserve is less than a mile from Willows Edge and offers tranquil walks along the River Tyne. Great for dog walkers and hikers, the river also provides a haven for wildlife. Although Ryton does not have a gym or leisure centre, these can be found a few minutes drive from the development in nearby villages. There is also great access to outdoor sports including cricket, rugby and junior football as well two rowing clubs. Transport - connected by rail Ryton is well connected by bus and is close to two branch line railway stations that connect to the East and West Coat main lines giving easy access to major cities. The closest train station is Blaydon where services run half hourly to Newcastle and Carlisle. The nearest bus stop in Ryton Church opposite the Post Office for east bound services and Ryton Church stop next to Coffee Johnny’s for west bound services towards Hexham. The 10, 10A, 10B run every 10 minutes from these stops. Buses to Newcastle city centre travel via the Metro Centre where connections to can be made to the wider area. Transport - connected by rail Willows Edge is located under 10 miles from Newcastle International Airport which offers direct connections to London and many international countries. Local Taxi’s Ryton offer services to the airport.

Broadband availability and predicted speed: obtained from Ofcom on January 7, 2022

Broadband speed is measured in megabits per second, with the number returned showing how fast the connection is. Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:

    Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
    Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
    Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s

The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2

Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength

Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:

Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
