HISTORY
Aldwyn Tower is a Grade ll listed building dating back to the 1850's from a time when Malvern was about to become one of the country's most famous and highly favoured spa towns. Aldwyn Tower is one of the finest examples of this period built as it was as a hotel to serve the rich and famous. Mentioned in Pevsner, its unmistakeable tower can be seen and recognised from most parts of the town and the surrounding hills. Constructed to an Italian theme of red brick with stucco dressings under a Welsh slate roof the tower itself is partly rendered with three arcaded bays the centre part of which contains windows modelled to a Venetian design. In common with many other distinctive buildings in the town it is believed that Aldwyn Tower played host to a number of famous and influential guests from Victorian society, the most notable perhaps being Franklin D. Roosevelt who went to convalesce there in 1889. There is a blue plaque on the building that recognises this historic visit.
