Property description & features

  • Tenure: Freehold
A charming and beautifully refurbished cottage in the middle of this most picturesque village, with off-street parking and a large garden.

THE PROPERTY
Situated in the heart of one of West Dorset's most picturesque and popular villages, first glimpses of March Past Cottage are most impressive with its very pretty façade covered in mature kiwi and grape vines, under a thatched roof.
On first entering the property there is a real sense of charm and space, the property having undergone a fastidious programme of works with the help of a well-known architect and bathroom designer, resulting in a truly magical property.
Dating back to the 1700's and justifiably Grade II listed of historical and architectural importance, this property is a perfect juxtaposition of old and new, with many original features still intact, but also many modern conveniences such as underfloor heating and new wood burning stoves.
There are many rooms in the house worth a special mention, including the fantastic sitting room, perfectly proportioned with exposed wooden beams and a wood burning stove, an ideal place to relax on a winter's day. Alongside the sitting room is a very good-sized study boasting a full-length bookshelf in bright periwinkle blue, with French windows opening out to the large garden and paved terrace, ideal for al fresco dining. There is also a separate cloakroom, which like much of this wonderful property has been refurbished with a huge amount of flair and attention to detail.
The real surprise however is the most fabulous kitchen / dining room, which is quite simply as good as it gets, with wonderful wide wooden stripped flooring, originated from the Gouda cheese factory in the Netherlands. The kitchen incorporates a number of highly attractive units and newly converted electric Aga. There is plenty of room for a large dining / breakfast table, with a dining area to one side incorporating a large inglenook fireplace with bronze coloured wood burning stove and pretty window seat. It is a wonderful room and forms the perfect hub of the house. Alongside is also a good-sized boot / utility room, with pretty reclaimed herringbone brick flooring and an ornately tiled sideboard with flower cutting basin, and again with direct access to the garden.
The beautiful bedrooms would not be out of place at the 5* Summer Lodge Hotel, (situated a close walk in the village) and are perfectly proportioned with surprisingly high ceilings, exposed wooden beams, window seats and many views over the village. The main bedroom has a beautiful en suite bathroom and there is also a further shower room, both of which have underfloor heating.
To the rear of the property is a sizeable and private garden, which has also recently undergone substantial investment, the front part having been raised with a paved eating terrace. To the side of the property is a garage and off-street parking.

All in all, this is a truly fantastic property in an idyllic yet very convenient location.

LOCATION
This part of West Dorset is well known for having some of the most beautiful and spectacular countryside in the south west. Numerous pretty villages nestle in folds in the chalk downland and the vast majority of the countryside here is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in which strict planning controls are in force to preserve this special character. The dramatic coastline and cliff tops of the Jurassic coast are a short drive away and have recently been designated a World Heritage Site.
Evershot is a delightful village lying between Dorchester and Yeovil with an active community which includes a village shop, bakery, the popular Acorn Inn, Summer Lodge Country House Hotel & Restaurant, and a primary school.
The larger village of Maiden Newton is just over a mile away, and also has a village shop, doctor's surgery, vet, first school, garage and has a main line railway station on the Weymouth to Bristol line.
The historic Abbey town of Sherborne, the regional centre of Yeovil and the County town of Dorchester are all within easy motoring distance providing an excellent range of cultural, recreational, and shopping facilities. There are mainline railway stations at all three towns, as well as from Crewkerne, with regular services to London Waterloo. Evershot is within easy
reach of the A37 (about 2 miles) ideal for commuting either to Yeovil or Dorchester, with road links along the A303 joined at Wincanton giving swift access to London and the Home Counties along the M3, M25 route.
