It has been 10 years now since Daniel Gould and Eve Evans were first drawn to the handsome, detached house at Berkshire Green and since then they have transformed it internally from top to bottom. Not only have the couple completely renovated both the ground and first floors of their Shenley Brook End home, but they have also carried out an attic conversion, creating a stylish new bedroom, complete with en suite shower room. “We were initially drawn to the house because of the setting,” Daniel recalls. “This is a prime location because we are close to lovely places to walk, such as Furzton Lake, while also having good schools and shopping areas on the doorstep and being just five minutes’ drive from central Milton Keynes and the train station. It is tranquil and friendly and it feels very safe.”

Rooms

INTERIOR DESIGN
The property also offered generous space, a good-sized garden and plenty of privacy. “It was a perfect size for our family at the time, had lots of internal features that we liked and also included off-road parking,” he continues. “We also realised that it could hold further scope for extension in the future – and this is exactly what we have done in extending up into the loft.” Indeed, the couple have gone on to carry out extensive renovation work to the entire house. In addition to creating an extra bedroom and shower room, they have also opened up the ground-floor living space, fitted a chic, contemporary kitchen and had all the existing bathrooms replaced. Walls have been replastered, built-in wardrobes have been added to bedrooms and a new boiler and Megaflo system have been installed, as well as an alarm and CCTV. “We have been through every room, improving and upgrading it, and giving it a stylish, high quality finish,” he adds.

ENTERTAINING SPACE
Set back from the road in its leafy location, the property has both a driveway and garage. It is entered from the front via an entrance hall with access to a downstairs cloakroom. A door to the right opens into the sizeable sitting room, which features a box bay window to the front and double doors that open into the kitchen, dining and family room. “This layout is ideal as the doors can be kept closed to create separate rooms or opened up to make one large area,” Daniel explains. “The design is perfect for anyone who enjoys entertaining. We have had some great parties here in recent times.”

SUMMER DAYS
The spacious kitchen, dining and family room has a peninsula breakfast bar and has been cleverly arranged to offer ample space for food preparation and storage, as well as family mealtimes. There is room in here for additional soft seating or dining furniture, depending on the requirements of the next owners. “We spend a lot of time in this part of the house,” he observes. “It is ideal for both family living and entertaining, especially in the summer months when the French windows can be opened up on the decking and garden.”

FLEXIBLE LAYOUT
The kitchen opens into a utility area with more doors on to the outside space. Stairs from the reception hall lead up to the first-floor landing and four bedrooms. The stylish family bathroom is also here. One of the bedrooms at this level has an en suite shower room and dressing area. “This is a lovely room, we use it as our master bedroom,” Daniel says. “One of the other bedrooms on this floor is currently arranged as a games room and study for our son.” A second set of stairs leads up to the top floor, where the airy new bedroom offers very generous space and a second en-suite shower room. “Our daughter has this room but it could be the master bedroom or a guest room,” he observes. “Someone else might also like to use it for another purpose altogether, such as as a work or leisure space.”

IDEAL HOME
The family has enjoyed the sense of easy living both the house and the Shenley Brook End location have offered them. “I think we will miss that when we move,” Daniel admits. “We are close to everything we need here; the neighbours are friendly and the house is exactly as we wanted it to be. We have really enjoyed living here and the house has been perfect for us. It is now ready for someone else to move straight into.”
