A long drive lined with lime trees leads to the Cheney Court which nestles on a gentle south facing slope in the southern Cotswolds. This early 17th century manor proudly displays pleasing symmetrical facades to both the south and west with double and triple gables respectively. Understood to have been built in 1620 during the reign of King James I and Listed Grade II*, the property was a private dwelling until 1948, when it became a hotel. In 1979 it became offices and a television studio before becoming a language school in 1989 until today. The southern façade serves as the garden elevation and has an enclosed porch with steps to the garden and its open aspect across the Wiltshire countryside. Approached from the main drive, the west front has a welcoming entrance with balustraded steps up to the front door with an open curved pediment and the Speke family crest above. The entrance hall is spacious and welcoming with a fine fireplace and stairs with arched balustrade and original dog gate at the foot of the stairs. There is a second staircase on the north side of the house, suitably decorated with column balusters and acorn finials. From the reception hall a short flight of steps leads to the large dining room which has a door to the garden and the access to the kitchen and service rooms which are equipped with commercial catering equipment. The drawing room occupies the south east corner of the first floor with large mullion windows providing natural light and an exceptional carved stone fireplace which includes matrimonial coat of arms, cherubs and lions masks. Due to its use as a language school there are 7 classrooms, 8 bedroom suites, 2 bedrooms and a shower room within the mansion house.

Situated to the north west of the house are additional buildings providing accommodation and offices/classrooms. These provide a further 17 bedroom suites within a small courtyard of cottages. A detached two storey building called Little Cheney, which was constructed in the 1980’s and provides a further 8 bedroom suites. There is also a detached building provides 7 offices/classrooms.

The large detached barn has been configured to provide accommodation over two floors and comprises conference room. gym, billiard room, cloakrooms on the ground floor and offices arranged on the first floor. The gardens border the house and include flower and herbaceous borders and a delightful parterre garden of clipped hedging. An estate drive to the north east of the house provides access to the two large carparks which have been successfully designed and landscaped to minimise their impact. The majority of the grounds are arranged as lawns bordering the house and buildings with open pastureland and a copse to the south and which provides the main view from the house. There are tennis courts and swimming pool (unused). The property was well known during the first half of the twentieth century for its Japanese’s garden of which the ponds and pools remain today
