Description

The Fishing
The fishing at Lower Bishopstoke includes 873 yards of double bank on the Itchen, with approximately 251 yards of single bank at the northern extent, as well as 137 yards of double bank on the Barton. The beat offers unrivalled variety throughout the year. It has been jointly owned by private individuals and a fishing club and has been very well maintained by their keepers. The fishing at lower Bishopstoke is an extremely picturesque beat on this world renowned chalk stream, The River Itchen.

The fishery has been maintained to a very high standard and as a result the fishing is absolutely first class with excellent fly water and opportunities to stalk fish. The majority of the fishing is a mixture of double on the Main River as well as a small section on The Barton at the southern end of the fishery which should suit all levels of ability with the aquatic fly life providing plenty of hatches, there is a good head of wild trout as well as stocked fish.

The beat was traditionally a salmon beat and while they still can be seen it is really fished for trout during the season and while not fished for grayling in the winter months, a purchaser could certainly make more of the grayling available.

Location

The fishing at Lower Bishopstoke is located within easy reach of Winchester and Southampton. It is very well situated to take full advantage of good road and rail communications, via the M3 and M27 and mainline train services to London Waterloo from Shawford, Winchester or Southampton. Access to the west bank is provided by a right of way down Chickenhall Lane to a private and gated parking area.
