The pretty town of Hythe is one of the historic Cinque Ports believed to have been established before the Norman Conquest in 1066.
The town stretches from the hillside which is dominated by St Leonard’s church and stretches across the Napoleonic Royal Military Canal to the Edwardian seafront promenade. The busy High Street is at the foot of the hill represented by a good range of independent shops along with Waitrose nearby. There are many sports clubs and facilities including tennis, bowls, squash and cricket whilst extensive bathing beaches provide opportunities for swimming and water sports.
At the western end of the town is the eastern terminus of the famous Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch light steam railway which runs parallel to the coastline as far as Dungeness.
Sandling mainline railway station is about 2 miles north of the town along with access to the M20 motorway at Junction 11.
