The house was designed by noted Victorian architect Sir Norman Shaw and is believed to date back to 1872 when it was commissioned for Henry Upton, the then manager of the Leconfield Estate. The striking external elevations include stone walls, with part timbered gable ends and large wood framed windows, all under pitched roofs covered in clay tiles. The beautifully proportioned accommodation includes some stunning original period features which includes exceptionally high ceilings with decorative cornicing, stone mullioned windows, original flooring, elegant main staircase, stained glass window and original fireplaces The property now offers a unique opportunity to renovate and potentially extend this magnificent much loved country house and make it their own, subject to all the necessary consents.

With a total of 7,895 sq ft, the accommodation is arranged over three floors and includes a beautiful drawing room, sitting room and library with access on to the south facing sun terrace and with delightful views over the garden, rural countryside and South Downs beyond. Complementing these rooms are the beautiful hall with original staircase, dining room, study, flower room, kitchen/breakfast room, utility room, boot room and two cloakrooms. In addition, there is a cellar comprising boiler room, two storage areas and wine cellar.

On the first floor is the main suite of bedroom, dressing room and bathroom, a guest bedroom with a ‘Jack & Jill’ bathroom, two further bedrooms and a family bathroom. There is also a guest suite approached from the servant’s staircase. The second floor is currently arranged as a 3 bedroom flat with kitchen, bathroom and cloakroom. Many of the rooms face south and enjoy stunning rural views.

The property is approached along a long private drive which lead to a parking area, the front and back door and to the various outbuildings. The matures gardens and grounds, which extend to 8.79 acres are private and well screened and feature a fabulous array of specimen and mature shrubs and trees including a stunning Wellingtonia, an orchard with a great variety of mature heritage fruit trees, paddocks and sweeping lawns.
