Historical Note - Battens Farm is Grade II Listed, being of special architectural or historic interest. The note in the schedule states that the house dates from the late 16th Century or early 17th Century with later additions, originally being a three room, through-passage plan house, the service end to the left of the passage, with a wing to the rear of the inner room. At some point the passage was blocked by the insertion of a massive chimney stack and a most unusual arrangement is that the fireplace is set diagonally across the corner of the room. The alterations may date from the late 18th Century. The property has a plank and muntin screen, a number of exposed ceiling beams and some interesting old windows whilst the roof is of cruck truss construction.
