Description

Triangle House occupies an enviable position being on the edge of Minchinhampton Common and having wonderful, long distant views to the south. Enhancing its appeal is the captivating garden which is laid out below the house and provides an enchanting and relaxing setting which is hard to beat. The house also has an interesting history having at one time been owned by Edward Raymond Payne, a notable figure in the Arts and Crafts movement and a renowned stained-glass artist, painter and illustrator. Such traditions have been continued at the property with various spaces and outbuildings configured as artist studios. Indeed the whole house possesses many interesting features including Gothic styled doors and windows. However, it should be noted that various finishing off works are required

The property is approached via a private shared driveway which terminates in a parking area adjacent to the outbuildings. On entering the house, the visitor is immediately taken by the amount of natural light, the striking design and the beautiful views provided by the large picture windows. All principal rooms open onto a south facing veranda from which the scenic views can be enjoyed. The sitting room includes a wall mounted fireplace and there is also an open fireplace in the dining room which includes display shelving. The kitchen is fitted to include a Gaggenau stove, split level double oven and a central island as well as a good range of wall and floor cupboards. It opens out into the splendid breakfast room with central roof lantern and full height glazing on two sides. Close to the front door is the utility room with cloakroom and outside door. A second cloakroom is found off a side lobby and from which a staircase rises to the first floor studio room which could easily be used as a bedroom as there is an adjoining wash room. As with the other bedrooms on this floor there is access to a full width balcony, again enjoying the panoramic views.

The main staircase rises to a landing off which there are the two principal bedrooms, both with en suite facilities. One has a high vaulted ceiling with windows on three sides. A concealed staircase leads to a further studio room which could be used as a fourth bedroom. The whole house is naturally light and airy and the versatile layout means the rooms can be used in a number of different ways.

Externally there are few comparable properties that can boast such a creative and interesting garden. This certainly sets the property apart and provides asetting of peace and tranquillity. A stone terrace in front of the house extends round to the side where there is a lily pond partly enclosed by high beech and yew hedging. A side gate leads through to the parking area which fronts the outbuildings. These have multiple uses and garaging could be provided. Below is a formal lawned area from which there is access to a concealed outside storage area. On the opposite side is a mature yew hedge with an opening into a further ‘room’. The central feature is the pergola covered al
fresco dining area which is flanked by water features and backed by yew topiary. A gravel path edged with herbaceous borders winds through to a further lawned area which is overlooked from a pergola covered terrace. Behind lies a natural covering of wild flowers shaded by a mature beech
tree. In one corner is the kitchen garden with raised beds for flowers and vegetables.

The garden includes two summerhouses, contrasting sitting out areas and is stocked with an extensive variety of shrubs and plants. These provide colour and interest throughout the year. From the property there is direct access onto the common. In short a very special home set in an exquisite garden and having scenic views over an unspoilt hamlet.
