Capturing the imaginations of artists throughout the centuries and particularly associated with John Constable, the River Stour provides the natural border between Suffolk and Essex.

Maintained by the Essex Wildlife Trust, Wrabness Nature Reserve is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and habitat to an array of bird species and wildlife, including Turtle Doves, Nightingales and Barn Owls.

Wrabness is a small village in North Essex, with a beautiful 12th century church, the Grayson Perry designed 'The House of Essex’ and a community shop, with a café and pub evenings. Wrabness Railway Station (0.75 miles) provide regular trains to London Liverpool Street via Manningtree from 74 minutes.

Strandlands is well placed for the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Constable Country, which is home to a number of particularly pretty villages. Dedham (10 miles) has a number or highly acclaimed restaurants, including the Talbooth and The Sun Inn, which are both included in The Good Food Guide.

Colchester (14 miles), considered Britain’s oldest town, was granted city status in 2022. It offers a wealth of cultural amenities including theatres, galleries and museums; Colchester Castle is an impressive Norman Keep, built on the foundations of a Roman Temple of Claudius and now a popular museum. The city offers a great selection of commercial and shopping facilities and myriad restaurants and public houses.
