Enjoying her daily swim in her exquisite, heated pool, the current owner of the handsome Bell Farm Close house reflects on the past seven years she has spent at her Studham home. The property she and her husband bought from new has been everything they hoped it would be – a stylish, comfortable lifestyle retreat and a magnificent place for friends and family to gather. “We weren’t seriously looking to move when we saw this place – it was just something we’d had at the backs of our minds,” she remembers. “This was the showhome for the development and we decided to have a look, without really expecting it to be right for us. But as soon as we saw it, we knew we wanted to live here!”

Rooms

LIGHT, SPACE AND TRANQUILLITY
Thinking back, she can still recall exactly what made them fall head over heels in love with the substantial, five-bedroom home. “We walked in and thought what a lovely place it was,” she says. “There was so much space and light and it had a beautiful staircase going up to a big landing. Every room was either double or triple aspect.” The property had, in fact, been the showhome for the small, exclusive development. “It also appealed to us because it was such a quiet location,” she adds. “When you are sitting out in the walled garden at the back it is extremely private and peaceful.”

INDOOR-OUTDOOR LIVING
The only addition that couple made to the house was the creation of the indoor swimming pool. As both were such keen swimmers they decided the pool would complement the property perfectly. “We had an outdoor pool at our previous house but, of course, we could only really swim there from May to October. With an indoor pool we have been able to swim every day and our family and friends have also enjoyed it,” she says. “There have been lots of lovely summer barbecues and other occasions, when we have pulled the bi-folding doors back on to the garden. Our grandchildren absolutely love it.”

FAMILY LIFE
The main house is entered via a central reception hall. To the left is the triple-aspect drawing room, which is a gorgeous, long space, with ample room for entertaining. A downstairs cloakroom also leads from the hall and then there is a study and a capacious kitchen, dining and family room. “I like the study as it is such a good size, with plenty of room for my desk and books,” she admits. “The kitchen dining room is probably my favourite place though. We have two comfortable chairs and a television at one end – and this is where I like to sit. The kitchen itself has a central island and lots of space to cook. There is a large table that seats at least 10 people comfortably.” She adds: “We have two sets of French windows in here that can be opened up on to the garden on sunny days.”

BEAUTIFUL BEDROOMS
All the bedrooms and bathrooms are on the first floor. The sumptuous master suite encompasses an entire wing of the house. This includes a dressing area, walk-in wardrobe, built-in storage and a sizeable en-suite shower room, as well as the luxurious, double-aspect bedroom. “I do love it – the dressing room in particular is a real treat,” she agrees. A guest room has an en-suite shower room and then the three other bedrooms share the generous family bathroom. “It has been very easy for us to accommodate all the children and grandchildren here at Christmas,” she says

FOND MEMORIES
Indeed, there have been so many happy times at the house. “We have had Christmases, Easters and lots of birthdays,” she recalls. “It has been a house that everyone has loved.” The location has also been ideal. The owners have enjoyed long country walks and excursions out on to the Downs. It has been quick to get into Berkhamsted and Dunstable for shopping, and to pick up major roads and motorways for travelling into London and to airports. “This is somewhere that is ideal if you want to be able to step out of your front door and straight on to a footpath and over the fields – and yet you can also everything else you need within a short drive.” She admits she will miss the space and flow of the property, as well as Studham, when she leaves. “The neighbours here are all very friendly and the house has been fantastic. It is a great family home and now someone else will have the chance to enjoy it just as we have.”
