Jukes Estate Agents are delighted to bring to the market this superb extended 4-bedroom semi-detached property in the highly desirable Hamlet of Newmans End, Matching Tye, Essex.
Newman's End is a hamlet in the civil parish of Matching, and the Epping Forest district of Essex.
The hamlet, at the north of the parish, is less than 1 mile (1.6 km) north-west from Matching village and the parish church of St Mary, and 1 mile south-east from the village of Sheering. It is just 4 miles to Harlow, and the new junction of the M11 (7A) is just 3 miles away. The nearest railway stations are Sawbridgeworth (4.5 miles) & Harlow Mill (5 miles) both of which have direct routes into London Liverpool St, Stansted Airport & Cambridge.
Down Hall Hotel & Spa (Home of The Great British Bake Off for 3 years), is close by and serves superb afternoon teas, and it's restaurant is superb. There are also several excellent eateries nearby, including The Little Seafood Restaurant at Hatfield Heath, and The Chequers at Matching Green.
Stansted Airport is just 9 miles away.
So whilst the property is nestled in the heart of the Essex countryside, and is most certainly classed as rural, major rail routes, motorways, and shopping centres are no more than 10 minutes away.
Local schools are rated Good by Ofsted.
The property itself dates back to around 1880. The current owners late husband had it extended some time ago & the adjoining property also extended at the same time and they agreed to have identical "mirror image" extensions so that they still look identical.
The property has plenty of "kerb appeal" and the front of the house is home to a superb Grape Vine that looks nice in Autumn and Winter, but spectacular in Spring and Summer.
There is a block paved in/out drive that comfortably houses three vehicles. Whilst there is a double garage, it isn't used as a garage, and all will be revealed later!
Unusually, I am going to start the description of this large family home upstairs. Why? Well, whilst the upstairs is absolutely lovely, I think it's always the best policy to keep the best 'til last!
Upstairs is in some ways a work in progress.
Go up the stairs and turn right and you find the first of two bedrooms. It's a good size double with fitted carpet and a large window overlooking the front of the property. There is an old Victorian fireplace (no longer working) which looks great!
Over the landing is another double bedroom, again with fitted carpet and a large window overlooking the rear garden (much more about this superb garden later). There is a storage cupboard that houses the oil fired boiler.
Back onto the landing, you find the traditional airing cupboard and then the family bathroom that has a bathtub, a walk in shower, WC, and washbasin. There is a heated towel rail, and a large frosted window. The entire bathroom is tiled tastefully.
The second part of the upstairs is a bit of a conundrum, and a work in progress.
Due to circumstances beyond the current owners control, the work in progress came to a grinding halt and we have advised that the work stopped, as new owners would be able to finish it in the style that they would prefer.
It has been signed off by the relevant people to the stage it is now and just needs finishing and signing off.
In essence, what we have is firstly the Master Bedroom (which has not been touched and is fully functional). This is a large double bedroom with a laminate wood floor. There is a large window to the front of the property, and a door that leads to the en suite.
back down the landing and around a corner or two you come to another room/space. However, I will come back to this shortly.
Here you will also find another double bedroom. This though is where the work in progress kicks in. This room needs a little bit of plasterboard putting up, and is then ready to be plastered and have flooring put down and it will be good to go! As I said before, this has all been signed off up to the stage it is now . It just needs finishing. There is a large window overlooking the rear garden, and when finished it will look wonderful. There is another door that leads to the same en suite as the Master Bedroom.
Now, the door can be locked so as to only allow access to the en suite from the Master, or you can allow access from both bedrooms. The choice will be yours!
The en suite is also a work in progress and once again is signed off. All of the plumbing and electrics are done and the shower, WC, heated towel rail etc. are all there waiting to be fitted. All of the tiles are there as well.
We than come back to this room/space. Now this could be configured / used for just about anything you wanted. Office, Walk in wardrobe, Guest Room, Nursery play area?
The whole of this "wing" of the property has so many combinations of use. The choice will be entirely up to the new owners.
Downstairs we come to a large country style kitchen diner.
The kitchen is large and has more cupboards and drawers than you could ever need. There is a fabulous electric AGA (fully vented), a modern Bosch oven & hob, a butler style sink, and granite worktops finish this kitchen off beautifully.
As you can imagine, we get to see many properties, and it never ceases to amaze me how clever some people are when it comes to utilising space. This kitchen has the cleverest use of a space (which is actually under the stairs) that I have ever seen. It looks like its a small storage cupboard. However, it is actually an integrated dishwasher! My goodness me, the owners husband was a clever man!
The dining area of the space is spacious and the current owner has a dining table & chairs to the front of the property where there is a large beautiful deep bay window (lovely). The whole area has tiled flooring, and just to finish this impressive space off, we have not one but two wonderful fully functional Victorian fireplaces that are in showroom condition. This "L" shaped kitchen diner really works well!
At the end of the kitchen area and as we start to enter the reception rooms, there are two more rooms to describe.
On the left is the downstairs cloakroom which has a WC & hand basin, and on the right a small utility room that houses the washing machine & a freezer.
As you enter the lounge, you really start to get the feel of just how big this house is!
A large space with a lovely wood floor and twin Georgian style windows overlooking the front of the property house two large sofas and various pieces of furniture and yet there is still more than enough space for it to look minimalistic! This is helped further by the fact that the far end of the lounge has double glass doors that leads to a large fantastic conservatory. As conservatories go, this is up there with the largest I have seen. It also benefits from the view (I am not getting drawn into that yet).
Back down to the other end of the lounge and we come to a second reception room.
Now, this is used by the current owner as just that. A large space with minimal furniture, twin windows overlooking that garden (oh my!), and double patio doors that lead into said garden.
It struck me at the time i viewed this and strikes me even more now as I write this, that this room could indeed have multiple uses. A formal dining room? A large home office? A homework room? You name it, and it could be it!
OK, I have left you waiting long enough I think.
Yes this house is large, yes it is lovely, yes it can been reconfigured in many ways, BUT..
The garden is just fabulous. It is essentially a "walled" garden and it wraps itself around the property and whilst laid mainly to lawn, it has many established trees, shrubs, and bushes that come the warmer months, it is going to look amazing. There is a small pond that contains a few goldfish and it has a quaint bridge that crosses it. There is a massive Koi pond that is currently empty. It has its own pump house. But if you didn't want the pond then a few tonnes of topsoil and you have got yourself an amazing raised flower bed that I can visualise adorned with a plethora of amazing flowers & plants. I would go for the Koi pond, but that's just my personal taste!
This garden space should be large enough to satisfy the keenest horticulturist, and whilst is has many features already, it is large enough and has enough untouched space for a new owner to put their own design to it, but there is more!
There is a Summerhouse, There is a Greenhouse, There is a good size Gazebo, There are three outbuildings.
The outbuildings are 1. A standard garden shed. 2. A larger building that is currently used for storage 2. an extremely large building (lovingly referred to as "The Barn"). They all have concrete floors and whilst the smaller of the three is nothing other than a garden shed, the other two, just like the house, have multi uses. They all have lights and power.
There are large gates for easy access to the garden.
Now we get onto the garage. From the front of the property it looks just like any other double garage. However, the doors no longer work because inside (and accessed from the garden), the garage has laminate flooring and has been completely boarded and insulated (the walls and the floor). The current owners husband was a model railway enthusiast of the highest stature, and this was his domain.
We were fortunate enough to get to see it is it's former glory, and my goodness, it was unbelievable. It is now empty, and ready for a new owner to find another use for this good size space.
It has a ladder that leads to the roof area (tall enough for you to stand). This gives you oodles of storage space, and once again like everything else to do with this property and its grounds, you have a blank canvas to do so many many things with it.
On the roof there are solar panels that bring in around £1,000 pa from the electricity provider (gold in these days of high energy prices).
The property is heated by oil fired central heating (slightly cheaper than gas), and the electric AGA once heated up, kicks in to heat the house and thus save even more money!
There is a septic tank that is only 6 years old and is cleverly concealed in the middle of a flower bed.
It is absolutely worth mentioning that STPP this property can be extended further. In fact foundations are already laid outside the second reception area (still to get planning permission), and indeed the extension could STPP be made even bigger!
The current owner has lived here for over 35 years and tells me that she has enjoyed her time here immensely and that she will be very sad to leave. One of the things she loves about living in Newmans End is the superb community spirit that exists here. All too rare these days, but everyone looks out for one another. However, the time has come for her to move on and give some lucky family the chance to experience life in "Evergreen Cottage".
In conclusion, what do we have?
We have a large 4 bedroom. 2 bathroom, 2 reception rooms, semi detached property in the heart of the Essex countryside.
It has lots of space in all of the rooms and can be extended further STPP. The garden is very large and the outbuildings with their concrete floors and the garage already boarded and insulated, means the potential of this property is huge, and its combinations of use almost endless.
This will make some lucky family an amazing home, and there is no reason whatsoever that the new owners will not be just as happy as the current owner has been. It is simply a lovely property!

We have offices throughout Hertfordshire & Essex, and as we are both Herts & Essex men, and have both been “round the block” a few times, we have a vast knowledge of not just the Herts & Essex property market, but the actual towns, villages, and hamlets in which we work. This we believe is vital! We got together a few years ago & formed Town & Country Herts & Essex, and we opened our first shop/office in Harlow, which today is our main HQ. We decided from day one that this had to be an ESTATE AGENCY WITH A DIFFERENCE. We listened to what people had to say about their bad experiences with other companies, and put together a structure that has proved extremely successful. What you now have is a truly local Estate Agency that is working not only for the people of Herts & Essex, but for the local communities as well. JUKES ESTATE AGENTS SPONSOR SEVERAL SCHOOLS, JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUBS, AND LOCAL CHARITIES THROUGHOUT BOTH COUNTIES!
