• Secluded setting in the very heart of the Ashdown Forest, with 6500 acres of open access heathland to explore and enjoy.

Offering extensive family accommodation, this stunningly presented and beautiful bungalow is situated within the old walled garden of the former Chelwood Vachery House and set in the very heart of the Ashdown Forest. With five large double bedrooms, four large receptions rooms, a substantial kitchen/breakfast room and landscaped gardens, it exudes space, privacy and tranquillity.

This outstanding and unique property provides magnificent and flexible accommodation which is easily adaptable to suit varied needs.

Located at the end of a private drive, the property offers privacy and excellent security. Solid oak seven foot electric gates provide entry into the walled garden and a gravel parking area provides parking for approximately fifteen cars.

The house was designed by an American architect and built by a Danish developer in the style known as Scandi Hus. There are multiple rooms, which can be used as either bedrooms or living rooms, but in essence there are five bedrooms (all with generous built in storage), four bathrooms and two WCs. The master bedroom has an ensuite and dressing room. There is also an additional room, which is presently used as a snug. The triple aspect drawing room, with open fireplace, leads onto a courtyard at the front of the house. From the drawing room you have unrivalled views of the garden and landscape beyond. The large kitchen also offers stunning triple aspect views. There is a separate utility room and three further living rooms, including a conservatory, all of which are beautifully proportioned and spacious. Velux windows provide additional natural light.

There are two private courtyards within the building, linking rooms together, and two facing onto the garden. Electrical points have been added to two of the courtyards for a hot tub and outdoor heating.

A former outbuilding, accessible from within the property, has been renovated and can be used for storage, gym, games room etc. There is also a double garage.

The garden is beautifully landscaped, with a separate acer garden, mature shrubs, trees, wide well-stocked herbaceous borders and extensive lawn, all lovingly looked after by a gardener whose services are included within the rental package.

The house is just over 5000 sq ft with an additional 371 sq ft double garage and sits comfortably on just over an acre of land.

Although set in this rural haven, the village of Nutley is only just over a mile away, with an excellent range of local facilities, including restaurants, a village store and a primary school. The village of Forest Row, about five minutes drive away, has a wider range of shops, several restaurants and a primary school. The towns of East Grinstead and Uckfield can be reached in fifteen minutes by car and both offer excellent shopping facilities and secondary schools. East Grinstead has a state of the art sports and leisure facility. The Ashdown Forest, famous for its Winnie the Pooh connections, has over 6500 acres of walking and riding facilities and can be accessed, literally, from just outside the property gate. Further leisure facilities, including several golf courses and health clubs, are close by and the South East coastal resorts are approximately one hour’s drive away.

There is a range of other excellent schools in the area, including Worth, Ardingly, the Michael Hall Rudolf Steiner School, Ashdown House, Brambletye, Cumnor House, Emerson College and Greenfields. Kent grammar schools and further independent schools are available in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge.
