Description

St. Saviours House is a wonderful period property, set within the quiet Aldwark Conservation area, that has recently undergone a sympathetic renovation.

The House is next door to the very fine Peasholme house built in 1751, and now owned by the York Civic Trust. It is attributed to the York architect John Carr, who also designed Fairfax House and Harewood House. In 1779 a coach house, stable, and hay chamber of that property were converted into a three storey detached house for the Reverend Thomas Mosely, which became St Saviours House.

The current owners have refurbished throughout to an exceptionally high standard, capturing the perfect balance between old and new. The property retains some original features, such as high ceilings and sash windows. Throughout the renovation, all the services have been modernised with new electrics, plumbing, heating and insulation.

The ground floor accommodation offers a new kitchen by Laura Ashley with fitted Neff appliances, Blomberg integrated dishwasher and fridge/freezer along with a Capel extractor fan.

Adjacent to the kitchen dining room is the sitting room, which leads through to the garden room with French doors to the private south facing walled courtyard.

Within the basement is a good sized beamed family room and toilet which completes this floor.

The central staircase leads up to the first floor landing where there are two bedrooms and a contemporary bathroom. The larger room, at various times, has been used both as an upstairs sitting room or a bedroom, with views of York Minster.

The second floor accommodates the principal bedroom with views towards York Minster, a fourth bedroom and a modern bathroom completes the accommodation on this floor.

The small sunny rear courtyard is 6m x 2.4 m (20’ x 8ft). It is brick paved, with ample room for your own al Fresco dining, barbecue, or pizza oven.

There is a valuable resident's parking scheme available to the property with parking in St Saviours Place, Peasholme Green and St Saviourgate.

Location

The house is situated on St Saviours Place, within the Aldwark Conservation area, a popular and quiet area within York city walls and between York's two rivers. The pedestrian centre of the city starts at the end of St Saviourgate, at Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate, and the Shambles. This area also gives access to bus stops and taxis.

Just outside the Bar Walls and River Foss on Foss Islands Road are all the supermarkets: Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Asda, as well as a handful of Gyms and a climbing wall.

In the other direction at the end of St Saviourgate are the Shambles, York Market, Marks and Spencers, and the vibrancy and vitality of the city centre, with its array of independent shops, national brands, restaurants, coffee shops and amenities.

The two universities add to the culture of the city, as well as the two theatres, an Art Gallery, Museums, Viking Centre, and a wonderful local library within the centre.

There is a huge array of restaurants to meet every taste, as well as ten listed in the Michelin Guide, which includes the "Star Inn the City" by Andrew Pern, "Roots" by Tommy Banks, and "Skosh" by Neil Bentinck.

Located beside the river Ouse is York City Rowing Club, and Rowntree Park with café, playground, tennis and basketball courts. There are also a number of strays around York, for dog walking, ball games etc.

Gardens close to the House include St Anthony's Hall Garden, just around the corner, Merchant Adventurers Hall garden, The Museum Gardens, The Deans Garden by York Minster, Treasurers House, and walks along the rivers and Bar Walls.

The top class York Racecourse and Knavesmire are two miles from the house and can be accessed by a delightful walk or cycle along the rivers.

The York Orbital Cycle Route and other Sustrans Cycle Routes can be accessed from the property.

York railway station is about a mile across the city, and offers regular services to major cities including Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh and London with some journeys taking less than two hours to Kings Cross. The A64 ring road gives access to Leeds, the A1(M) and the wider motorway network.

As well as the two universities: York University and York St John University, the city offers a diverse range of primary and secondary schools. Independent schools include St Peter's, Bootham and The Mount.

Please note all distances and travel times are approximate.
