Yew Tree House is a fascinating detached, Grade II Listed house originally built in the 1500's as a traditional Somerset Long House. It was built from the stone of the Abbots of Glastonbury's Summer Palace, in the fields of Blackford. The house was considerably extended in the 1830's to add an elegant Georgian wing.

Today, the combination of the periods provides a most comfortable, friendly and atmospheric interior, full of history. The present owners purchased the property in 1992 when it was in need of complete renovation. All features appropriate to the periods have been retained and sympathetically restored, including oak, elm, pine, tiled, cobbled and flagstone floors, as well as archways, beamed ceilings, ceiling cornices, moulded architraves and skirting boards, window shutters, fanlights and fireplaces.

The drawing room in the Georgian wing is a particularly attractive, well proportioned room, with a central marble fireplace and overlooks the south facing garden. The sitting room is a comfortable room with period fireplace and polished wood floor and the dining room has a cross beam ceiling. This atmospheric room was formerly a shop and retains some interesting, original features, including the shuttered bow shop window. The office has a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, the original cobbled floor and a “minstrel's” gallery. The farmhouse kitchen, with pantry and glass covered original well, is fitted with solid wood painted units, and a Rayburn sits in a large former fireplace. The excellent 21' cellar with flagstone floor is currently being used as a snooker room.

A fine staircase leads from the hall to the first floor. There are six bedrooms and a study, all arranged off a split level landing. The two bathrooms and separate shower room are contemporary and one bathroom is fitted with a separate shower. A secondary staircase leads down to the entrance hall. The rumpus room is on the first floor and accessed externally, from steps in the enclosed courtyard entrance. This room is perfect for teenagers, grandchildren or as a separate study area or studio.

Yew Tree House is approached over a drive, providing parking, to the west of the house and leads to a substantial L shaped full height stone and tile former cart house/cider barn. This houses the original cider press, with overhang, the age of which is thought to be as old, or older, than the original house. There is evidence that this barn may have had three floors. The barn includes a double carport, single garage, utility room and outside W.C. This barn is linked by a wide, open arch to another full height barn with store and former stable. The complete barn complex offers exciting potential for development into additional accommodation or work space, subject to permissions.

A pathway from the drive passes a stone store/boiler room with rumpus room above, and continues to a pretty, covered open fronted Mediterranean style courtyard garden and the entrance door.

The heated swimming pool lies to the south west of the house, is very secluded and mainly walled, with a stone surround, level lawn, and outdoor shower.

The private rear garden is south facing and overlooked by the classical front elevation of the Georgian wing which is adorned by a mature Wisteria. There are expanses of lawn, separated by box hedging and pathways. There are planted borders and shrubs. Mature trees intersperse the lawn and include a magnificent copper beech and a tulip tree. Fruit trees include eating apples, plum, olive and pear.

There are further smaller stone and tile outbuildings around the grounds including, in the paddock, a barn with pre-planning application approval.

Blackford is a lovely, unspoilt Somerset village with a strong community, less than a mile from the busy village of Wedmore. There is a pub, village hall, community cafe, church, farm shops and village choir. The village has a thriving middle school and is well placed for other good schools nearby.

Each reading is based on the highest predicted speed of any major broadband network for services that deliver the download speeds. The following are the different readings that we may display:

    Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
    Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
    Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s

The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2

Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:

Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
