Charming period village house with a pretty garden and long views over the Blackmore Vale.

Description

The Laurels probably dates back to the 19th century and is a most delightful house with rendered elevations under a tiled roof. The house has spacious, well arranged accommodation over two floors and is located in the heart of this pretty village much of which once formed part of the Hinton St Mary Estate.

From the lane a driveway leads to the side of house where there is parking and access to a garage which is integral to the house. There are two access points to the house, the main, spacious reception hall from the driveway which leads to the utility room, WC and back into the garage.

The oldest part of the house is the main front elevation which has classical proportions and a wonderful climbing Wisteria cascading over the porch. The front door leads to a hall either side of which are the dining room and a sitting room with open plan kitchen with AGA. On the first floor is a principal bedroom suite, three further bedrooms and a shower room. There is access to a spacious, fully boarded loft which runs the full width of the house.

The majority of the gardens lie to the south and east, are level and mostly laid to lawn dissected by a path which leads to the front door and a terrace. There are some lovely mature trees including a magnificent Tulip Tree, a magnolia and the garden has numerous mature shrubs and borders giving colour. As well as the terrace there are two further seating areas, one arranged beneath a pergola with a splendid Wisteria climbing over. To the rear of the property is a greenhouse and kitchen garden.

Location

Hinton St Mary is a pretty village with some charming old cottages and houses, a church, the White Horse Public House and the handsome Manor House, part of the surrounding Hinton St Mary Estate owned by the Pitt-Rivers family since the mid 1500’s.

Hinton is about one mile to the north of the popular market town of Sturminster Newton, in the heart of the Blackmore Vale.

In recent years the town has undergone considerable regeneration with an active arts centre, a doctor’s surgery, supermarket, traditional butcher and delicatessen, cafes, pubs and a dental practice.

The county town of Dorchester lies to the south and offers a further wide range of facilities and other towns in the area include Shaftesbury, Blandford Forum and Sherborne.

Gillingham has a mainline station to London Waterloo (approximately two hours).

The area is well known for its educational facilities both state and private. Private schools include Bryanston, Clayesmore, Sherborne and Sherborne School for Girls. Prep schools include Port Regis, Sandroyd, Hanford, Bryanston and Clayesmore Prep. There is a primary school in Sturminster Newton (William Barnes Primary School). Sturminster High School and Gillingham School are both popular secondary schools.
