Whiteways is a most beautiful Victorian house originally built in the late 1800s with later additions in the early 1900s. This fantastic house is ideal for entertaining with the primary reception rooms opening into the Orangery which unfolds onto the terrace and gardens.
One enters the grounds from the road through a barrel vaulted cloistered walkway framed by wisteria, past south facing outdoor seating and a Koi pond, through the front door and into the spacious entrance hall with oak flooring and panelled oak doors radiating to the reception rooms.
The living room has a spectacular ceiling with fine oak dentil cornicing, oak flooring, an open fireplace and twin pairs of French doors giving access to the Orangery. The large dining room also has two pairs of doors to the Orangery, an open fireplace and a panelled oak door leading to the kitchen.
The 14m Orangery has discrete lighting, retractable linen shades and four sets of doors flowing seamlessly onto the rear terrace and garden beyond.
The kitchen has windows on three sides with a bespoke granite topped oak breakfast table in the south facing bay. The floor is tumbled smooth limestone which is cool in the summer and warm in the winter, thanks to underfloor heating. The cabinets are made in English oak with granite tops and stainless steel appliances. It's a kitchen for cooking in. The boots stay in the boot room next door and the laundry in the laundry room upstairs.
To the north side of the hall there is a snug with oak flooring and a Piazzetta ceramic wood stove, leading up to several rooms that could be used as a self-contained annexe including the TV room, second kitchen and separate staircase to the first floor with two bedrooms. There is planning permission for a door to the exterior. From the hall there is a door leading down to the full height cellar for storing wine, etc.
From the hall there is a polished mahogany banister that leads you up the stairs. At the far end of the landing, past the airing cupboard is the principal suite. There's an open fire, wall mounted tv, underfloor heating in the en suite and a dressing room. In the morning you can open the curtains and enjoy the south facing view across the garden and beyond.
Off the main landing there are two further bedrooms and the family bathroom complete with the restored original 1901 bath, taps and WC surrounded by half height oak panelling, original working fireplace and window seat overlooking the garden. Past the laundry room, there are two equal bedrooms with fireplaces, a shower room with original 1901 tiles, a smaller laundry room, and a staircase leading up to the second floor.
Though the ceiling height on the second floor can't accommodate your average basketball player, the all-round tongue and grooved beadboard create a fun space as a children's playroom or further bedroom with a hatch to the vast walk-in loft.
The grounds extend to 0.8 of an acre divided into "garden rooms" by hedges. From the front garden a gate opens to the back garden with a terrace extending along the rear of the house onto which the orangery doors open. A cobble path leads to the studio with a grass roof, underfloor heating, shower room, fridge, a concealed drinks cabinet in shelving, and wifi. Bifold doors open onto the screened porch, overlooking a garden with roses and fruit trees. Beyond is a wildflower meadow with beech hedging and a brick and flint wall. Al fresco dining can be had under the cedar structure looking back up the meadow. To the left lies a large lawn with a fine Magnolia and a Western Red cedar. From there a path leads down to the netted vegetable garden. An Amdega greenhouse has an espalier peach tree. There is also a large workshop and storage shed.
Back towards the house is the croquet lawn with yew hedges, framed by decorative paths of old brick, tile and pebble. Outside the kitchen is a terrace flanked by wisteria and a fig and a bike shed to match the house. A gate leads to the parking.

Whiteways is on a south facing site overlooking the village. Whitchurch has a thriving community with a pub, primary school, gallery and a host of clubs. A short walk over the bridge takes you to Pangbourne, where you'll find a butcher, baker and cheese shop, a supermarket, post office, library and doctor.
There are several independent schools in the area, St Andrew's Prep, Moulsford Prep, Cranford House, The Oratory, Pangbourne College, Reading Blue Coat, Queen Anne's and Bradfield College. St Helen's & St Catharine's and Abingdon have a bus service and the schools in Oxford are 30 minutes by train. Pangbourne train station is a 15 minute walk. Paddington is 45 minutes and Central London in an hour on the Elizabeth line. M4 Jct 12 is 15 minute drive.
