The Story
From the beautiful magnolia tree at the front of the house, to the seamlessly flowing interior and enchanting garden, everything about the property on Vernon Drive was enticing to its current owners when they first viewed it. “My husband initially saw it on his own,” one of them recalls. “He told me he loved its open-plan interior and said the garden was like a magical world for children! Then I came to have a look at it too and I agreed with him. It was spacious and light inside and the garden was a good size and was interesting. We had three small children and knew it would be ideal for us in every way.”
Extension Possibilities
Believed to have been built in 1978, the detached property has now been home to the family for 11 years. Since then they have redecorated it throughout in Farrow & Ball shades, bringing splashes of colour in through furniture and furnishings. “We have not made any structural changes to the property but have considered extending the house out to the right to give ourselves a spacious kitchen, breakfast and family room downstairs and a new bedroom with en suite bathroom upstairs. We still have the plans and the planning permission is still in place should anyone else be interested in considering it.” She adds: “New owners could also explore the possibility of extending out to the back of the house if they wished. There is so much space that they could do this without losing too much garden.”
Generous Interior
As it is now, however, the Vernon Road house is already surprisingly spacious. It is entered via a lobby, with has access to a downstairs cloakroom and opens up into the main ground-floor accommodation. This includes the very generous drawing room that flows into a study space or play area, which in turn opens into the very sizeable conservatory. “This is a very flexible house – you can use the various areas as you wish, for all sorts of different purposes.” The kitchen, which can also be entered from the centre of the house, adjoins the conservatory. The kitchen also leads into the utility room, which features an outside door.
Easy Living
The property is comfortable and easy to live in. “We spend a lot of time in the drawing room, which is essentially the size of two rooms,” she explains. “We have a floor-to-ceiling bay window at one end, so it is always very light, and there is plenty of room for playing games together and watching television.” The open-plan layout makes it easy to keep an eye on small children. The current owners use the conservatory as a dining room, which is ideal for both family life and entertaining. “When the children were small I could watch them while they were playing outside with their friends and when we have guests I can be in the kitchen cooking or washing up and still able to chat to everyone who is through in the conservatory.”
Glorious Garden
Upstairs, there are four bedrooms – two larger and two smaller. The family bathroom is also up here. The impressive garden, which has given the whole family great pleasure over the years, has been something of an extension to the living space during the warmer months. “We really have enjoyed all the outside space we have here and that is something I will really miss when we leave,” she admits. “Again, the space outside is such that there are other things new owners could do out here if they wished – one option might be to install a separate home office or garden studio.”
Ideal Location
The owners have also relished the location of their home. They have enjoyed being part of a friendly community, as well as the ease of having schools within walking distance. “We can also walk to the race-course and Ascot High Street from here, and there is a small, wooded area with a playground just five minutes’ stroll away,” she says. “There are green, open spaces within a five or 10-minute drive; we are close to the railway station and it is easy to pick up major roads and motorways and to reach Heathrow Airport. This is such a safe, quiet and easy place to live. It is a great place for anyone with a family or someone seeking to be somewhere peaceful yet convenient.”
Setting the scene
To the front of the house there is a front garden with a lawn, magnolia tree and driveway for up to five cars to park. To the rear, the house opens up on to a beautiful garden with different levels of terrace, decking and lawn, as well as mature trees and shrubs. There is a garden shed.

Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s

The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2
Mobile phone signal availability and predicted strength: obtained from Ofcom on March 29, 2022
Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:
Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
Energy Performance data and Internal floor area: obtained on March 8, 2023 from The Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) (England and Wales) Regulations 2007 or the Home Report if in relation to a residential property in Scotland.
