  • Spacious interior accommodation full of period features
  • Five bedrooms, two bathrooms, four reception rooms
  • Leisure/games complex, home office complex
  • 1.6 acres of beautiful gardens with stunning views
Tucked away towards the end of a quiet no through country lane, along one of the most beautiful stretches of the River Wye, this fabulous Edwardian lodge offers extensive and versatile accommodation full of period charm, all set within beautiful grounds of around 1.6 acres.

The property has been exceptionally well cared for by the current owner for almost 30 years, and retains its period charm throughout every single room of the original house. Later extensions and additions have been designed carefully so as not to detract from the original character of the property, and add an extra level of versatility to the accommodation.

The grounds are extremely well tended, comprising of several independent sections of garden, with a variety of useful outbuildings, garaging and plenty of parking, and truly unbeatable views over the iconic River Wye.

Foy is a small hamlet which lies towards the end of a no through country lane, roughly 4 miles north east of the market town of Ross on Wye. This incredibly picturesque location feels very special, with stunning vistas over the River Wye and wooded hillsides beyond, along with numerous footpaths and bridges crossing the river and meandering through the nearby countryside.

Vendor insight

My family have been fortunate to live at The Gaff for nearly thirty years. We are only the third family to live here since the property was built in 1910. It is a classic light and airy Edwardian country house, comfortably sat within its large gardens, and is a joy to live in. It is now time for me to leave and pass this much loved family home on to its next owners.

The internal accommodation is beautifully presented, with many beautiful period features that help to retain the atmosphere of an authentic and unspoiled Edwardian home.

The ground floor comprises a large and welcoming entrance reception hallway, with a grand open fireplace. This follows on into a longer corridor giving access to the numerous reception rooms. These include a very sizeable drawing room, with bay window looking outwards to the glorious countryside, a beautiful dining room with panelled walls, a library with fitted bookshelves and a snug with open fire, dual aspect windows and access outside to the rear patio area. In addition, there is a very generous kitchen- breakfast room complete with four oven oil fired Aga.

To the first floor, the landing gives access to a loft space with fitted cast iron rail ladder, an airing cupboard and a door to the end of the corridor which leads out onto a large balcony, which offers exquisite views over the gardens and rolling green countryside beyond.

There are five double bedrooms, all bright, airy and charmingly decorated, with some having built in wardrobes and feature fireplaces. Two of the bedrooms enjoy a pleasant westerly outlook over fields to the front, with the other three looking east towards the River Wye. The master bedroom is particularly generous in size, with a bay window and its own en-suite bathroom.

There is a large family bathroom which features attractive wood panelling to two walls, freestanding bath, shower cubicle, wash basin and W.C. There is an archway which leads into a useful storage room, with access into the eaves storage space.

Leisure wing

Connecting the main house to the leisure wing is a selection of storage and utility rooms, with access to a beautiful wine cellar, with brick walls, flagstone flooring and fitted wine racks.

The leisure space has been converted from an indoor swimming pool, to create an exceptional open space, currently in use as gym, music room and gaming area. The room would be big enough for a variety of possible uses.

Office wing

To the other side of the house is a separate wing, which served as a home office for many years. It comprises three separate sections, with space for numerous people to work. There are LED downlights to the ceiling, laminate flooring and multiple access points outside. This space would be ideal for someone looking to start up, or continue running an already established business.

Outside - The grounds of The Gaff are generous in size, amounting to approximately 1.6 acres in total, with well maintained gardens, arranged in different individual sections, each offering their own charm and appeal. Some key features are areas of flat lawn, wildflowers and paved courtyard with fountain. There is a car port, outside store room, outside W.C, summer house, chicken coop and three separate driveways allowing for plenty of parking. There is also a good sized concrete outbuilding, offering potential for conversion, subject to the relevant planning.

Agents Note. The property has full fibre broadband 300 mbs.
