Vendors' Comments:

The land with an original forge and cobbled yard dating from 1870 was purchased by a local farmer in 1909. The house itself was built with Flemish brickwork in 1910 becoming part of Wyke village with it’s original name of Rose Hill Cottage. The property is surrounded with climbing wild roses allowing for a quiet garden and parking for at least four cars. There is vehicle access from the front, with double gated, foot access to the rear garden between the old forge and the house and also gated access to the side lane.

The rear garden is mostly shrubs and a lot of small fruit trees, mature apple and pear and gooseberry bushes inherited but we expanded the small orchard area at the rear with Victoria plums, cherry and greengage. There’s also a Damson tree and a second Victoria plum edging the lawn. Night-time cameras have shown us a variety of local wildlife using the garden.   In the top garden there are two log cabins used as studios. One has mains electricity and the smaller has solar for lights but one mains socket.

The old forge is a stone built, slate roof outbuilding with two floors. Under the stairs it houses the workings from the solar panels that are on the roof, which are linked to the house. The side entrance is an original stable door. Upstairs goes from head height to about one metre high and mostly used for storage.

Wyke village is a friendly peaceful place to live, quiet from traffic noise but still on a bus route to town. Various passageways can take you through the village to shops and pub along the Portland Road. A couple of hundred yards down the road, Pirates lane will take you to the Fleet and Chesil Bank that are perfect for walking dogs or strolling to the Fat Badger, Crab House Cafe, Billy Winters or Taste Cafe.
