From waking up to the sound of the birds out in the field behind them to entertaining family and friends in their beautiful home, Sally and Chris have many happy memories to take with them when they leave Catesby Croft. The couple moved into the house in highly desirable Loughton after being attracted by the unique quality of life it offered them. “We look on to a field belonging to an equestrian centre at the back and to the front there is a very quiet cul-de-sac,” Sally explains. “This is such a peaceful place to be.” Chris recalls that convenience of Milton Keynes was also very appealing. “It provides such practicality as everything you need is within very easy reach, yet where we are in Loughton is almost like being in the countryside. It is where two very different worlds come together – and it offered us that perfect balance we were looking for.”

Rooms

NATURAL LIGHT
Built 22 years ago, the five-bedroom house also more than met their needs. “It is a very good size and offered us all the living space we were seeking,” Sally continues. “With three storeys of accommodation, it also provided great flexibility.” Since moving into the house, the couple have upgraded it, redecorating certain rooms and enhancing it with features such as a new fireplace in the drawing room. “We also had new windows installed along one side of the drawing room to bring the natural light streaming in and to give us wonderful views out over the garden,” Chris explains.

AMPLE SPACE
Entered from the front via a central reception hall, the house offers well-proportioned accommodation. The large drawing room, which is roomy enough for a grand piano, now has a bay window to one side and the new windows to another, making it bright and airy. “This is now a really nice space to be in,” Sally says. Opposite the drawing room – and also with a bay window – is the study. “I spend a lot of time in here,” says Chris. “It is a very pleasant place to work.” To the rear of the house, are the dining room and kitchen breakfast room. The kitchen adjoins a utility room, which in turn has internal access to the double garage and a cloakroom / WC. “The dining room is great for seating lots of people at Christmas and the kitchen is also very spacious,” she continues. Chris adds: “This has been a wonderful house for entertaining because we have so much space both inside and out.”

GORGEOUS MASTER SUITE
Three of the bedrooms, including the master suite, are on the first floor of the house. The family bathroom is also at this level. The master bedroom is a very large room, with a walk-in dressing room and sizeable en suite shower room. “One of the other bedrooms on this floor is our daughter’s – and the one opposite is her playroom. This arrangement has worked very well for us,” says Sally.

THE SOUND OF BIRDSONG
The top floor of the house encompasses two additional bedrooms, both also of a good size. There is also a family shower room up here. “One of these rooms is a guest bedroom and the other is a games room which we currently have set up for table tennis,” says Chris. “This has also been ideal for us as guests have been able to have their own space, with their own bathroom, and we have been able to keep the first floor for the family.” Sally and Chris have enjoyed being able to accommodate so many visitors. “We have had some lovely garden parties here,” says Chris. “Then at other times we have simply enjoyed relaxing outside, listening to the birds and the sounds of the horses.”

HAPPY MEMORIES
Sally has appreciated the ease of finding family activities and toddler classes close by and they have both enjoyed being part of the very friendly local community. “During lockdown people would sit out in the cul de sac in their deckchairs after the weekly NHS clap and chat to each other – it really brought everyone together,” says Chris. “We will miss everything about being here when we leave. Our daughter was born at the house and so we have very happy memories of our time here. It has been a wonderful place to live.”
