Incredible detached house with unique, direct river frontage.

Description

Strand End is situated at the eastern end of Strand-on-the-Green and is the remaining building of The New Devonshire Boatyard.

Built in 1869, it is a fine Victorian detached villa linked with a converted boathouse so that there is extensive direct river frontage. The house is set back from the road so that there is generous off-street parking. Entering through the front door, there is a large entrance hallway leading through to the kitchen with a double reception area to the side. This reception space has two bay windows allowing for copious natural light and glistening views of the river. It can be separated by double folding doors. There is a well-appointed kitchen breakfast room with a gas-fired Aga and windows that, together with a glazed stable door, provide direct river views across the garden. The kitchen links through a second hallway which has its own front door with a porthole and leads further to a seating reception space from which a large study/bedroom has windows on two sides overlooking the garden and directly over the river. Next to the reception space is an exceptional and striking large room with five large windows directly over the river so that, at high tide, ducks and swans can look directly in. At the and there is a window over an electric fire and this provides far-reaching views upstream to Kew Bridge and beyond. This striking room is the most notable part of the old boatyard. The additional front door and hallway enables the can form self-contained accommodation or workspace.

On the first floor level there are three good sized bedrooms, all of which feature built in storage. The largest of these has double doors out onto a balcony from which here are sensational river views. There is a family bathroom with separate shower. The principal bedroom expands across the second floor with large windows providing framed views of the river. There is an en suite shower room, and a generous dressing area lying adjacent plus an abundance of eaves storage.

The garden is a blend of paved and grassed areas, with the river wall contributing to an enclosed private area. Mooring on the river frontage historically has been in place but permission must be granted by Port of London Authority with an annual fee charged.
