Believed to date originally from the mid-18th century when it was a traditional, stone-built single storey Somerset longhouse, Blacklawn House has a lovely position overlooking a gorgeous swathe of unspoilt countryside that stretches eastwards to Langport positioned on a ridgeline in the distance, just over mile away. An upper storey was added about 150 years ago in brick providing a charming and unusual contrast with the mellow, local stone of the original lower storey. It has been the much-loved home of its current owner for the past 30 years and has been well cared for over that time and now provides a wonderful opportunity for some cosmetic updating. The house is sited on an east-west axis, which gives it a light-filled interior and wonderful views over the surrounding countryside from both reception rooms, the two larger bedrooms on the first floor and the galleried landing on the first floor. The house also has good ceiling height although a few of the ground floor doorways are slightly low. It is unlisted and has retained some lovely architectural features. These include inglenook fireplaces in each of the two reception rooms, one of which has an impressive, brick-built bread oven, chamfered beams, carved ceiling joists, windows seats and a hand-hewn plank and muntin wall separating the sitting room and the kitchen. It also has a centrally positioned kitchen between the sitting and dining rooms with its own cosy dining area, an east-facing conservatory plus a large boot room/laundry room, off which is a double bedroom with en-suite bath and shower room. There are three further double bedrooms on the first floor. The principal bedroom and another bedroom share the bathroom between then and the guest bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom.

The house is set in about 0.59 acres (0.23 hectares) of garden and is approached directly off the lane that bisects the hamlet. A 30 yard-long gravel driveway leads to a gravel parking area beside the house. On one side of the drive are a greenhouse and an adjacent garage block incorporating a single garage and garden store. Behind is an elevated, level area of grass bound on two sides by tall beech hedging and dotted with sycamore trees and a mixed orchard of apple, plum and damson trees. On either side of the house are two further areas of garden that are bound by hedging and shrubs that provide a high degree of privacy from neighbouring properties. There is direct access to the house from both these areas of the garden via French windows to the conservatory on the eastern side of the house and to the sitting room from the paved terrace on the western side.

Langport 1.1 miles, Curry Rivel 1.8 miles, A303 9.4 miles, Taunton/J25 M5 11.9 miles, Castle Cary Station (Paddington 90 minutes) 16.2 miles Yeovil Junction Station (Waterloo 2.25 hours) 17 miles, Bristol Airport 32.3 miles, Exeter Airport (London City Airport 1 hour) 39.5 miles (Distances and times approximate).

Blacklawn House is situated on the edge of the rural hamlet of Wick, which is conveniently midway between the large village of Curry Rivel and the small town of Langport. The former has a parish church, village hall, convenience store/post office, petrol station, public house and cricket club (see ) and the latter has a wide, eclectic mix of shops including a Tesco superstore plus GP, dental and veterinary surgeries (see ). In addition, there are convenient transport links nearby and choice of state/independent schools including Huish Episcopi Primary School and Academy, both Ofsted rated 2 (Good) plus Millfield, the Taunton schools, Perrot Hill and Hazelgrove.

    Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
    Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
    Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s

The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2

Mobile signal predictions are provided by the four UK mobile network operators: EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. Predictions can vary significantly from the coverage you may actually experience as a result of local factors (especially terrain). Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:

Clear: No bars, no signal predicted

Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
