Pulling back the bi-folding doors from their spectacular kitchen, dining and living room, Michelle and Kev can carry their morning coffee out into the sunshine of their immaculate garden. The back of their Bodiam Close home has now been transformed into a stunning, modern living space, with a chic kitchen, dining area and comfortable seating. “It is lovely all year round but in the summer it is especially amazing,” Michelle admits. “We have the doors open and everyone wanders in and out to the garden, which is not overlooked and where we can sit and watch the squirrels in the trees. In the winter, we close the blinds, and it becomes cosy and warm. It is a wonderful living space.”

Rooms

A QUIET LIFE
It has been 17 years now since the couple moved into the house. “It only had one owner before us, who lived here for about 15 years,” Michelle recalls. “We lived up the road at the time and I was on maternity leave and would often go for walks with my baby. I saw this house was for sale – and that it was bigger than ours and with a large garden – and was immediately drawn to it. We already loved the area, because the schools were so good, and it was easy to get to shops and to travel from here. This was a particularly quiet cul-de-sac and it felt very private.”

NATURAL LIGHT
Since moving in, Michelle and Kev have maintained the house well. They initially added a conservatory, but in 2021 decided to take it down and open up the rear of the property with their impressive extension. The new kitchen has grey, high-gloss units with soft closing doors, topped off with Mirostone work surfaces. There is a central island, with an additional freezer built in, the floor is Amtico, and the bi-folding doors and roof light have integrated blinds. “This is now such a lovely room to spend time in,” she agrees. “We can watch television, cook and eat in here – and the natural light just streams in from above.”

ALL SEASONS
The kitchen, dining and living area – and indeed the whole house – has been kept very minimalist in décor, with soft greys as a backdrop and splashes of colour here and there. The kitchen leads into a handy utility room, with the same units and work surfaces as the kitchen, and with a door leading out to the side of the house. The property’s front door opens into a reception hall, with access to a downstairs cloakroom, as well as the kitchen, dining and living room. To the front of the house, there is a more formal drawing room, with a feature fireplace and bay window. “This is another room that is very cosy in the winter time,” she says. “It is good to have two separate reception rooms – the front room is where Kev and our son often go to watch the football!”

GENEROUS BEDROOMS
The gorgeous master bedroom is upstairs and to the front of the house. It has an en suite shower room and fitted cupboards. “We have recently had a new carpet and blinds up here,” she continues. “The en suite shower room and family bathroom were both also recently replaced.” The family bathroom is to the rear of the home. The guest bedroom also overlooks the garden. The third bedroom is dual aspect, spanning the entire depth of the house. “This was originally two bedrooms – it was a four-bedroom house – but we decided to open it up so our son could have a very large room, with a bedroom space at one end and study at the other. It would be very easy for new owners to replace the stud wall if they wanted to divide it off again,” she observes.

OUT IN THE WOODS
Shenley Church End has been an idyllic place to live, Michelle says. As well as the easy access to shops, supermarkets, school and central Milton Keynes it offers, there are also some picturesque places to walk. “I love going to Shenley Toot – and Shenley Wood is just a five-minute walk too,” she says. “It is unbelievable to be able to live somewhere like this and yet to be just five minutes from the train station, major shops and good roads.” She adds: “This is what we will miss about living here – it is quiet, it feels safe, and it is rather like living in a village. We feel very lucky to have been able to have enjoyed the best of all worlds.”
