Why you’ll like it:

One of the most sought-after Busby & Wilds seafront terraces in the city and one of the finest Regency developments within the UK, this apartment is on the prime southwest corner of a statement end of terrace building adorned by Ionic columns. There is an entrance to the lower storeroom for bikes etc, but visitors will enjoy the grand porch tucked along the quiet one-way street to the side and the magnificent original tiles and stained-glass bay of the communal hall (said to have been installed when it was the billiards room of a luxury seaside home)!
Downstairs there are only two apartments, and this one spans the bright southwest side. Long, inviting and lined with storage the blonde wood underfoot continues through into the spacious living/dining room where classic proportions include a ceiling which soars to approximately 2.7 metres overhead, and as the space has been partly opened to the kitchen, three broad windows almost fill the south wall to bring in the Sussex sunshine. There is plenty of floorspace to work with and light and airy by day, at night there is a choice of ambient lighting level as well as a pebble effect gas fire to enjoy.
Separate but sociable, the streamlined kitchen has a high-end finish, and it is good to go with a central gas hob and electric oven beneath a hood, a Bosch washing machine and designated space for a tall fridge freezer, which could stay, subject to circumstance. With a window facing the big communal south courtyard you can pass food and drink in and out easily when entertaining al fresco, and we are told that the current owner has never actually seen anyone else from the building using it.
Along the hall, the principal bedroom has a wall of wardrobes providing sophisticated storage, and with calm décor and lovely thick carpet you won’t need to change a thing – and a special feature is that the original 1820’s window remains in place complete with mahogany runners. Next door, the second bedroom is a generous size, and as it is completely private, tucked beneath the steps to the porch, it is used as a comfortable home office and occasional, quiet dining room. Not to be outshone, at the far end of the hallway the stylish interiors continue in the luxury shower room where the stones under your feet bring its prime seaside location in and touches of indulgence include the large walk in shower, a Vitra handbasin on sleek curved storage and a warming rail for towels. Perfect!

Agent says:
“There is strong demand for the beautiful apartments in Brunswick Terrace which are set back from the beach, Hove Lawns and coast road by a service road with permit parking. In a prime location, apartments do not come to the market often – this one is on for the first time in 25 years- and ready to turn the key it will not stay around for long.”

Owner’s secret:
“We fell in love with the proportions of the apartment where every room is big and bright, and just moments from the beach and 3 minutes’ walk from Western Road friends like to come and visit! We feel lucky to have spent so much time in a building with an interesting history: Brunswick Square and Terrace were built almost exclusively bespoke. 1-6 however we’re constructed initially to be let. Number 6 nonetheless was acquired by a High Court Judge a few years later and we have given the office a copy of original plans that I dug out of the archives that relate – the shower room would have been the wine cellar and the butler would have slept next door as the wine would have probably cost more than the house! It was a single dwelling until about 1912, became The Strathmore Lodge Hotel in 1929 and was then converted to eight luxury apartments in 1949.We didn’t know much about the area when we came and it is amazing with lots to explore -you can’t get bored with so much happening- and you can stroll, run or cycle along the seafront or enjoy the dog walking, keep fit classes or events on the Lawns.”

Where it is:

In one of Hove’s finest Regency developments opposite the beach, Hove Lawns, also opposite, have a friendly community of dog walkers, runners, keep fit clubs and hold events during festivals, so you won’t feel isolated if you are new to the city. Tucked up and away from the coast road it is quiet although this sought- after location is within minutes of fashionable shopping, restaurants, clubs, cinemas and theatres. Close to the commercial districts and cultural heart of the city, the whole of Brighton and Hove is easy to reach on foot, by bus or by car and Hove Station with its fast links to Gatwick and London is a 20ish minute walk, or 6-7 minutes by cab.
