Charming Grade II* listed lodge in the grounds of Nashdom Abbey.

Description

North Lodge lies on the edge of the grounds of Nashdom Abbey, a magnificent restored Grade II* listed country house standing in about 17 acres of communal gardens and woodland. This detached lodge enjoys a peaceful setting overlooking woodland, being part of the original buildings it is separate from the main house and has easy access. The property is full of character with its own private courtyard garden and benefits from parking to the front and rear, a separate garage and use of the communal grounds and facilities of Nashdom Abbey.

An oversized front door leads into the reception hall with a part vaulted ceiling and a cloakroom. A dual aspect dining room lies to the front and a generous sitting room is located to the rear, with a tall sash window giving views over the courtyard garden. The room features built in cabinetry and a stone fireplace with a gas coal effect fire. The kitchen/breakfast room, with a door giving access to the courtyard, is beautifully fitted with an excellent range of units complemented by Corian worktops. Appliances include an induction hob with extractor, two ovens, built-in fridge and freezer, dishwasher and a washer/dryer.

On the first floor the landing leads to two characterful bedrooms. The principal bedroom is vaulted and enjoys a triple aspect, with a built-in double wardrobe and a good sized en suite shower room with a recessed shower cubicle. The remaining bedroom is split level, with built-in storage and stairs to a mezzanine floor with bespoke fitted wardrobes. A well appointed family bathroom, with a jacuzzi bath, completes the accommodation on this floor.

Outside
North Lodge has parking to the front and an allocated parking bay to the rear, with separate electric gated access leading to the garage. There is also an additional secure allocated parking bay in the grounds. Accessed from the kitchen, the southerly facing courtyard garden is delightful, and has been beautifully landscaped to provide a wonderful outside space for both entertaining, outdoor dining and relaxation. Raised flower beds provide interest, and there is a shed and separate storage area. Benefits of the property include use of about 17 acres of grounds and woodland, with communal facilities including a hard tennis court, heated outdoor swimming pool and a gymnasium (refurbished in 2014).

Historical Note
In 1898, the Russian Prince Alexis Dolgorouki married Frances Wilson, heiress of Fleetwood and commissioned Sir Edwin Lutyens to build Nashdom (Russian for ‘our home’). In 1929 the ownership passed to a Benedictine Order who lived in and cared for Nashdom as an abbey for half a century until they left to merge with a larger monastery near Newbury. The mansion was converted in 1997 to luxury apartments.
