Location

This iconic waterside area has been described as one of the finest quays in the world dating back to 1665, with a cobbled street and a mixture of 17th, 18th and 19th century buildings.
Bayards Cove is steeped in rich maritime history. Bearscove Castle (locally known as Bayards Fort) at the end of the quay was built in the early 1500s offering a line of defence to protect the town. In 1620, the Mayflower and Speedwell resided here before sailing across the Atlantic Ocean to the new world of America. During World War I the area was heavily involved in water-based campaigns including the D-day landings and Operation Tiger.

Directions

Proceed on foot through Dartmouth town centre, keeping the river on your left. Head towards the Lower Ferry and continue past the slipway and Dart Optical, again on your left and follow the lane into Bayard's Cove. Walk along the cobbles and The Mission House is towards the end.
