Property description & features

Lethanhill woodland sits on the site of a former mining village which was cleared of people and levelled in the 1950s for mining purposes. Situated to the north west of the woodland is Lethanhill monument which was erected by public subscription and dedicated by the inhabitants of Lethanhill and Burnfoothill to the memory of villagers who lost their lives in the First World War.

The site is recognised by Historic Environment Scotland as a scheduled monument – Ref SM7863. The site was designated in 1999 and includes the remains of Lethanhill mining village. The inhabitants of Lethanhill played an important role in the Dalmellington Ironworks Company between 1840 and 1950 which is recognised through the Scheduled Ancient Monument Status.

The woodland extends to approximately 8.41 hectares (20.78 acres) and comprises a mixture of Sitka Spruce, Norway Spruce and European Larch. The woodland was planted in the 1960’s and the trees have matured well and appear to be of good stem form. The woodland has not been thinned, therefore the trees have not reached maximum width. It is believed the woodland is likely to yield approximately 3,340m³ of timber.

Lethanhill Wood presents the opportunity to acquire a versatile woodland parcel which has potential to be used for recreational, or community purposes provided the relevant consents are approved.

The woodland offers recreational timber harvesters a chance to purchase the woodland for use in producing domestic wood fuel for personal use.

Purchasers interested in preserving the history of the site may look to secure the woodland.

A felling permission was granted for the woodland: Permission Number:FPA-6825 which expires in January 2022. The felling permission is not subject to restocking obligations due to the historical significance of the site.

    Basic: Up to 30 Mbit/s
    Super-fast: Between 30 Mbit/s and 300 Mbit/s
    Ultra-fast: Over 300 Mbit/s

The data is updated three times a year. The checker results are predictions and should not be regarded as guaranteed. For more information, see: https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/about-checker#Answer_0_2

Ofcom has tested the actual coverage provided in various locations around the UK to help ensure that these predictions are reasonable. The values shown against a property can be broken down as follows:

Clear: No bars, no signal predicted
Red: One bar, reliable signal unlikely
Amber: Two bars, may experience problems with connectivity
Green: Three bars, likely to have good coverage and receive a data rate to support basic web services
Enhanced: Full bars, likely to have good coverage indoors and to receive an enhanced data rate to support multimedia services
