Location

Once home to the novelist Daphne Du Maurier, the River Fowey is a beautiful estuary which joins the sea between Readymoney Cove and Polruan on Cornwall's beautiful south coast. About 6 miles upstream is the historic stannary town of Lostwithiel. Once the ancient capital of Cornwall, some 700 years ago, its pretty narrow streets contain many antique and craft shops as well as other independent shops and eateries catering for everyday needs. There are also two primary schools and a community centre which supports the towns year round community. Secondary schooling can be found in Fowey, Bodmin and Truro or St Joseph's at Launceston.

For the walking enthusiast, the area boasts many interesting walks along the river and through the leafy lanes to the ruins of Restormel Castle. For the keen golfer there is the Lostwithiel Golf Course, whilst Lanhydrock Golf Course, one of the finest golf courses in the South West, is just seven miles away. The town lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with both the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery and Lanhydrock House within easy reach to the north.

To the south is the pretty harbour town of Fowey, also one of Cornwall’s most historic and unspoilt seaport towns renowned for its safe deep water anchorage and sailing facilities.

Communications to the area are excellent, with Bodmin and the A30 to the north and the A38 and Plymouth to the East, whilst Lostwithiel has a main line train station, providing regular services to London and Penzance.
