The Property

Tremendous care has gone into the refurbishment and re-planning of this delightful Grade II Listed cottage and it’s garden in the last seven years. A look inside is essential - gone are the former heavy dark beams, now professionally finished in light, honey tones. A new kitchen has been fitted; and with its high vaulted ceiling, has an AGA cooker and a stable door out to the side garden area.

The kitchen opens to the big, oak beamed dining room - great for family dining and entertaining.

Our clients park one car outside in the lane and also own their own car bay at the rear of the cottage, accessed off Bramble Lane, the little private non-through lane that runs up behind properties in The Street. Planning consent had been obtained to make this into a 2-car bay, although this lapsed and is thought to be obtainable again.

Bottom Cottage is a welcoming and practical home offering excellent living space in the two lovely reception rooms - the full-width sitting room featuring a fine ingle-nook fireplace and recent wood-burning stove. Among many period features are hand-made oak latch doors; and neutral décor tones give an air of quality and sophistication that wouldn’t be out of place in the pages of country lifestyle magazines.

A useful garden building/workroom is at the end of the garden and the cottage enjoys rural views through pine trees at the back to grazing fields beyond. The mature landscaped garden widens out considerably to provide two levels with natural privacy, with a rear terrace having integral wall lighting to create ambience for eating outside in the warmer months.

Heating is by gas with a Worcester condensing boiler.

Equally suiting a couple or folks downsizing, it is also ideal to “lock-up and leave” as a second home.

We’d like to tell you more, but why not book an early personal viewing to avoid disappointment.

The Location

This part of Thakeham is the picturesque ancient village, The Street winds downhill past the Rectory, period houses and pretty cottages to the Parish Church of St Mary which lies on the hill just to the east. Many people will know the White Lion Inn/restaurant nearby, now open again and renowned for its traditional country atmosphere and excellent food.

Local footpaths will take you on wonderful country walks and to Meadow Stores, the recently opened shop at Abingworth Meadows, handy for groceries, artisan bread, general supplies, cakes and coffee.

Within a short drive is the lively village of Storrington, set against the stunning backdrop of the South Downs National Park and containing banks, coffee shops, restaurants and takeaways.

There is also a Veterinary Practice. In Storrington there are good local shops and community amenities include the Post Office, Library, a Waitrose store (John Lewis collection point) and Costa; as well as Lloyds and Boots chemists.

Further east at Ashington is the M&S shop and petrol station and a Co-op convenience store. Leisure Centres are at Storrington, Steyning and Billingshurst.
