The Coes Faen Estate has a rich history which dates back to 1865 when the area of Abermaw began to be transformed from a shipbuilding, fishing community to a desirable Victorian seaside destination in North Wales. During the Victorian era, the main home, The Clock House, was owned by the Lowe family who were mill owners and between 1890 and 1900 additions were made to the property including the iconic clock tower itself. Today, the home boasts picture-perfect views of the surrounding water which can be enjoyed from every room and the accommodation includes six spacious bedrooms, a luxurious kitchen, and three bathrooms.
In addition to the main house, The Lodge was originally built as accommodation for the coachman, housekeeper, and maid who worked at the property as well as the horses that pulled the family coach. Since being extended in the 1970s, Coes Faen Lodge has been a multi-award winning Bed & Breakfast with spa features and a restaurant for the last five years, and in 2021 was awarded one of just ten César awards which are often referred to as the ‘Oscars’ of the hotel world. Coes Faen Lodge has also previously won Green Hotel of the Year, and has always paid attention to its environmental impact as its renovation combined 19th century architecture with new technology. While it is commercially run, the Lodge could alternatively be used as additional accommodation or a guest house. Beside the Lodge are two apartments which feature a kitchen, dining and family room, a bedroom, bathroom and small utility room.
Outside, the property sits within over 16 acres of established woodland home to lots of wildlife, and beautiful gardens which have fantastic vantage points for admiring the incredible views of the Mawddach Estuary and Cadair Idris. The position of The Clock House and Lodge also means those who love adventure can also enjoy water sports; from sailing and kayaking to paddle boarding and canoeing, plenty of fun can be had right on the doorstep, while dolphins and seals can also be spotted in the water too. Furthermore, with Snowdonia National Park just 500m away, there is also potential to explore the natural environment and enjoy long walks and bike trails beyond the property.
