Living in Stratton St Margaret

Stratton St Margaret is a civil parish in the Borough of Swindon, Wiltshire, England with a population of over 21,000. Stratton’s good primary and secondary schools attract families into the area. Even people who are up- or down-sizing tend to stay locally. It’s easy to get around from here, there are various bus services cover the area, and Stratton is close to the A419 which gives easy access to the M4 and M5.

There are also regular bus services to surrounding areas and Swindon, which is only 3 miles away giving access to Swindon station. Stratton St Margaret can be accessed via the M4.

Many locals refer to Stratton as ‘the village’, which comes from strata, meaning road in Latin because the Roman road of Ermin Street (the B4006) runs straight through the parish. The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and the parish church of St Margaret dates back to the 13th Century, although with later additions.
