Driving down the private gravel lane, flanked by woodland and open fields, you enter the grounds of Lee Priory through the walled entrance. It is here that you get your first glimpse of this property and its magnificent original chimney stacks and stone mullioned windows. This extremely elegant and beautiful Grade II listed property, with patterned brick design, once served as the old laundry and brewery to Lee Priory, a mansion house of monastic origins, sadly demolished in the 1950s. Lee Priory was altered and extended to include this property in 1860 by Sir George Gilbert Scott, one of England's most prolific architects, famous for designing the Albert Memorial in Hyde Park and the Midland Grand Hotel at St Pancras (now the fully restored and aptly renamed Renaissance hotel). The Victoria & Albert Museum houses the Hereford Screen, one of his most famous works, as well as a special section housing the Strawberry Room which was extracted from the inside of Lee Priory before it was demolished. This property has been lovingly and meticulously restored to create a truly unique, and charming family home. During the renovations, original historic features have been preserved and incorporated in to the modernisation to retain its English charm. All windows have been replaced with heritage slim steel double-glazed units, with complementary conservation roof-lights added when the slate roof was restored. The most impressive of these being the large glass roof-lantern at the apex of the main bedroom roof, allowing evening star-gazing on a clear night. Walking into the modern country-style kitchen, you can immediately feel the warm and friendly atmosphere engendered by this lovely home. It includes delightful cream units, a double Rangemaster cooker, integrated dishwasher, an American-style fridge with filtered water system, and central island breakfast bar for informal dining. The natural stone floors which flow through to the spacious entrance hall, and beyond to the utility area and WC, is warmed by the bespoke underfloor heating system, which extends through the entire ground floor.

What the Owner says:
“Although the property needed a complete renovation, we instantly fell in love with this property and the surrounding area. It has been wonderful to raise a young family here and live in a peaceful and quiet place, yet only be a few moments from the village. Since purchasing the property in 2014, we have lovingly and sympathetically restored it to become the unique and beautiful home it is today. We worked very closely with our architect and both planning and heritage departments to bring our vision to life. While we will miss this house very much, we feel it is time to embark on our next project. Littlebourne is a lovely village with plenty of activities and includes a village shop, post office and a recreation ground with a children's playground, skateboarding, an outdoor gym and a BMX circuit. It is also home to the Littlebourne cricket club for those who enjoy the summer sound of leather on willow. Buses from the nearby bus stop can whisk you to the centre of Canterbury in eight minutes, and we are not far from Canterbury Golf Club, and Polo Farm Sports Club. We can be in Wingham in five minutes, with its pubs, restaurants and the delightful Gibson's Farm Shop. We are also very fortunate to be in close proximity to both Howlett's Zoo and Wingham Wildlife Park and a short drive to the coast, where we spend our summers enjoying the many beaches.
