SOLD SUBJECT TO CONTRACT VIA FINE & COUNTRY. Occupying a much sought after location on the edge of the pretty Kent village of Shorne is Chart House, a very attractive four-bedroom family home that was beautifully remodelled and refurbished just ten years ago. My mother and father bought this lovely piece of land back in 1965 and then proceeded to design and build our family home, and I must say it was a very happy home. The location is absolutely superb, very leafy and green, however everything you might want or need is just a stone’s throw away in places such as Rochester and Gravesend, and the Blue Water Shopping Centre is only fifteen minutes away by car.

The original house was a very typical 1960s build and around ten years ago my mother decided it needed a bit of a facelift so that original property was essentially stripped down to ground level and a new house was built. It has been designed to fit beautifully with its semirural surroundings using a mix of red brick and hung tiles, and we went that extra mile and added handmade solid oak window frames and doors. Inside it has a traditional layout and lovely features such as a beautiful stone fireplace in the living room and African teak herringbone parquet flooring – reclaimed from the original house – which combine to add real character. An awful lot of thought went into both the design and build and no expense was spared, and I’d say the overall quality is something that’s very clear to see.

The house sits on a really good-size plot so benefits from having a superb amount of outside space. The garden wraps around three sides and is mainly laid to law, and there’s also a large and nicely sheltered brick-paved patio just outside the kitchen, which is ideal for BBQs and summer entertaining. I’d say that the garden is very family friendly, but there’s definitely scope to enhance it further with the addition of more plants – I’ve always thought the house would look particularly lovely festooned with wisteria.

Rooms

Seller Insight
Favourite room: The living room is a very special room. It has a huge bay window overlooking the garden, a rather handsome stone fireplace with a wood burning stove that kicks out lots of heat, and it also features the beautiful teak parquet flooring. It’s a lovely room and one that has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: Bowesden Lane is one of the most desirable addresses in the area, and rightly so. It’s a dead end so there’s hardly any passing traffic and therefore it’s always very peaceful down there, and the outlook is incredibly leafy and green; the village is just a short walk away and there you can find a couple of cosy pubs and a shop, and for everything else you can head to Gravesend, Rochester or the Blue Water Shopping Centre. Memorable event (if not another favourite room or unique feature): The house is just lovely as it is, but there’s definitely scope to add extra accommodation. The lofts is (truncated)
