The property
Until recently used as a high-quality Holiday Let, Craigcaffie Tower is a stunning castle in excellent condition, set within delightful gardens and grounds. This historic property enjoys a wealth of period features including crow stepped gables, castellated sentry walks, solid oak floors and beams on two levels, and original fire places. The accommodation lies over four floors, accessible by a stone turnpike staircase leading up the Tower. The property is entered through a lobby leading to the barrel-vaulted kitchen that is lit by windows on two aspects with a natural stone floor. This kitchen benefits from a range of base units with wooden worktops, a Belfast sink, and ample space for a large dining table. There is also a walk-in pantry, with room for fridge freezer, washing machine as well as storage.

On the first floor, there is the Laird’s Hall, an impressive yet welcoming and comfortable room for entertaining and relaxing. The Hall is brightly lit by windows on two sides and a large Inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove is the focal point of the room. There is also a conveniently located study accessed from the Hall. On the second floor is the master bedroom – formally the Lairds parlour.

This is a charming room with the wooden flooring and exposed beams that can be found on all but the ground floor of the Tower. On the second floor there is also a family bathroom. On the third floor there is a landing that gives access to a double bedroom and a bunk room. These are served by a shower room. Two sentry walks are accessed from the landing and the double bedroom and these afford the Tower stunning views of the surrounding countryside and coastal area.

Historical Note
Craigcaffie Tower was originally built in 1570 by the Neilson family on land granted to the Earl of Carrick by Robert the Bruce. The property passed through various hands before being purchased by the Dalrymples of Stair in 1791. The Tower was bought from the Stair Estate in the 1980’s. The property was extensively restored over a five-year period in the late 1980’s.

Within the region there are some spectacular gardens which are open to the public including Castle Kennedy, Glenwhan and Logan. Castle Kennedy estate, within half a mile of the Tower, provides sheltered scenic walks throughout the year.

Outside
Craigcaffie Tower is situated in a peaceful and secluded position and is approached over a gravelled driveway offering private parking for multiple vehicles.
